i just did my accord, and if the prelude is the same you will have a bad time, i had to take the two doors off to do this, the stock wire for me was too small, so i wired everything with a new wire, i took the doors off, altough i can tell you that the passenger side didn't need to come off, but the drivers did, because the way the wiring is sent to the doors, the driver side has 2 connectors and it doesn't gives you space to wire anything.

This is my 2 cents and a bump for you.
Let's see what others have to say, maybe i did it the hard way.

I JUST finished this on my civic, and btw, the work is WELL worth the result. anyways, on my car you just had to take off the fenders. (i took off passenger door first attempt but that was a real pain. disconnect the wire boot from the car, then disconnect the other end from the door. now, there should be 4 little green things sticking out of the boot on the door side, these hold that boot on. pull the boot off of those first. I had to tear the ones off the back side (you'll see what i mean by that). next, disconnect the actual wire plug from the door.

now what i did here, and its kinda risky, but it makes for an extremely clean install::

{} that entire wire plug should have plenty of unused space to drill through (unless you have side air bags which i highly doubt). disconnect the plug's access point from the inside of the door. you can now get to that end of the plug from inside the door panel. take off the plastic covering (it only really redirects the wires). drill through a spacious part of that access plug. repeat with the door plug in the same spot (MAKE SURE THE HOLES MATCH UP! or it will be a pain to fix that). once your holes are drilled, thread the start of your wire through the access plug. then reattach the cover to the access plug, and snap that back into the door.

next, thread the wire through the door plug and reattach that. then thread the wire through the boot using a coat hanger. make sure you tape any sharp edges on that hanger. we dont want any cut wires here. just use common sense. then thread the wire down into the space under the dash. from there it should be pretty much smooth sailing.

a little note. there is a LOT of grease in those plugs. thats sealant, not nasty dirt goo.

that was for my civic, but should be similar if not exact.

good luck! you'll love your results! remember, 16 or 18 guage wire should be used.

The easyest way to wire your front speakers, use an aftermarket dash harness for your headunit and find the speaker wires from the harness and just connect your wires from there and run them to your amp.

that works, but i wouldn't reccomend using stock 22/20 guage wires with that much of a load (depending on the amp size of course)

you also wont get the best sound quality

Simple way is to run a speaker wire from amp to the factory front speaker wire found behind the hu. Or run a new wire all the way to the doors, but I don't think you'll be losing much if you stay with factory. Subs are fine with a 16ga wire, and this is fronts we're dealing with. Should be ok.

PS. Lol to the guy that took his doors off.

are you gonna amp the back speakers too? if so you can cut the wires from the back and hook those up to the amp for your front channel...then at the back of the head unit, cut the front 2 and connect them with the rear 2. since you are amping your rear speakers (if you are) youre going to connect the rear speakers directly to the amp. i wouldnt suggest this obviously if you arent gonna amp rears or if you want to run crazy mids

I did this on mine over this past summer. im glad i decided to take the fenders off instead of taking the door off . the fenders were really easy for me. my car just looked like it was in a huge wreck tho when i did it

Anyone care to take a pic tutorial on exactly how to wire the whole front speakers while taking off the door panel and fender?

1) Take off your fenders
2) Pull the harness out
3) Drill 2 holes in it
4) Push through the new speaker wire

Sorry, no pics.

its really not that difficult.

but as a note:

there is a plastic housing on the inside of the door that the door plug fits into. take this out of the door, cut the factory electrical tape, open the housing, put in your new wires, close it, and reattach it. from there you should be able to pull as much wire through as you need. as a rule of thumb, i made sure the wire length extended the full length of the door from where that plug was. you can trim it up later.

path of threading the wire: put through door plastice housing. put through plug. put through boot (coathanger recommended). push through hole and into back of dash. grab the wire and pull through as much as you need.

i mounted my 4 channel amp under the passenger seat
its WELL hidden! (i like clean, subtle installs)

Sounds like you didn't take off the side fender. If you had to just to gain an easier access to the boot.. wouldn't the fender not allign with the hood and front slightly compared to when you didnt take it off as it came from the factory?

what amp did you use, and how did you mount it? I am looking to get a 4 channel amp for my speakers in my 96 accord, and would like to put it under the seat as well.

have you ever taken a part off of a car? you can adjust the placement of the fender. it actually aligns better now. you HAVE to remove either the doors or the fenders, unless you have really really really small hands or some godly dexterity with pliers, in order to get to that boot. if you do it you'll find out why.

got an Alpine MRV-F345. i took the passenger side seat out, drilled holes, mounted the amp, then put the seat back in. I took apart most of the forward interior (ended up taking out both seats for a time). there is a hollow reinforcement beam right under the forward side of the seat. it has several holes in it conveniently placed where the plugs on the amp were. I cut holes in the carpet there, and just ran all the wires directly from each front speaker to the amp through the beam and carpeting. the rears I ran down the passenger side, side panels.just use your own descretion on the wiring, the carpet and center console hide wires really well. there isn't really a 'wrong' way to run wires under there. I ran 2 RCA cables from my head unit to the amp. I rewired the entire speaker system with 16 guage wire (call it overkill if you want). Keep in mind, you really should have an aftermarket headunit with 2 RCA full range outs (seperate from RCA outs for a subwoofer). also, zip ties will become your best friend in a lot of this install.

Hmmm... I've drilled out numerous plugs to run factory disarm wires in Accords, and I have never taken off a fender... And my hands aren't small... Maybe Accords have more room to work in than Preludes? :shrugs:

its possible. hell, i work on civics, they are smaller too. who knows. it depends on the car i guess. the topic has deviated frmo being prelude specific, just a little off topic i guess

If this is true, then you're my god, my accord (5th gen) sure as hell didn't have space and i have small hands.
Anyway, if you're going to do something do it the right way, that's my motto.

You will have much more trouble aligning the door once you're done with it!
