Default 90 Si Hatch Project

*UPDATED 1/09* *NEW PICS*

Hello fellow honda fanatics. This is my first honda project. I'll keep this thread updated as my project progresses, probably won't be updated often as this car is my daily driver and I am building as I go along.

The Car:
1990 Civic Si

Got the car in a trade for a 2000 Kawasaki KE100 dirtbike, yeah I scored an insanely great deal. Got the car with 110k, mint interior and no rust all around. Car had a cheap ram air intake and "type r" shiftknob, also a cheap ebay front upper strut bar. The only bad thing is that the front had damage because the kid rear-ended his girlfriends car. Also someone shot it up with a paintball gun and it had a few dings on the doors and quarters. Also the tranny went a few weeks into having it on the road.

Work so far:
-Replaced tranny with another Si tranny, had the flywheel cut, new Exedy Clutch.
-Cheap coil-overs that destroyed suspension (waiting to be removed in exchange for koni yellows and new springs, not sure what kind yet.)
-Steering Rack Bushing.
-I found a hood, bumper, headlight, and panel under the headlight for a total of about $50... the only problem is that they were off a 4 door but since the front was hit the 4 door parts, although a few inches longer, line up fairly decent (can't complain considering the price!)
-Amber Corners
-2nd stage of body work done, primed. Thinking of doing it black, possible white and black from the molding down.
-Installed Field SFC

Parts aquired but not installed:
-93 Z6 head, valve train, cam, cam gear, intake manifold.
-Apexi cat-back exhaust
-Garret M27
-B&M AFPR
-Battery Relocation Box
-Z6 Throttle Body
-STD Manifold
-Charge Pipes
-BOV
-JDM S14 Intercooler

Parts needed:
-A6 Timing Belt
-Gaskets
-Water Pump
-DSM 380-450cc injectors
-Downpipe and charge pipes

Future Plans:
-Koni Yellows, Possibly a drop-zone coilover setup because of the price, also because I hear good things but also bad things so still not sure.
-New Windshield, yes it has a crack
-Chipped PM6 Running TurboEdit
-WindowWeld Motor Mount fix.

Pics: (for now)

So let me know, what do you think so far?

*NEW PICS 12/18*

STD Manifold, cleansed z6 IM

clean like new!

begining stages of wire tuck, messy!

Possibly, this vtec thing is somewhat foreign to me. If you look on the vtec solenoid it looks like im missing something, the threaded hole with the seal around it, what goes there? Also in the last pic of the head on the bottom right corner I think im missing a sensor, do you know what goes there?

yeah definately hot tank that head and get it milled before you put it on... and the threaded part on the vtec solenoid is where the oil pressure sensor goes.. nice project

I read a few mini me write ups that said they didnt use the oil pressure sensor, if this is true can i just stick a bolt in there instead of getting the sensor and not having a wire run to it?

its where you get a bit shaved off the mounting surface on your head(bottom where it mates to the block) usualy it raises compression ratio

thanks, that answer sure helped the project out

well like I said if the sensor isn't used explain why what I said wouldn't work.

you would need the pressure sensor in order for vtec to activate properly. because in a properly wired up car ( lets say a stock 93 eg ex/si ) if the sensor doesnt see the oil pressure that is needed to use vtec it will not allow it to engage. engaging vtec with low oil pressure will damage the engine

UPDATE!

So my plans have since changed. I picked up a Garett M27, B&M Command Flow AFPR, d16z6 throttle body, and a battery relocation box.

Now instead of the planned mini-me I am going turbo. So if anyone is looking for a complete z6 head let me know.

Started on a wire tuck and will post pics tomorrow. Also cleaned up the z6 intake manifold pictured above which will be going on my d16a6. Also got most of the body work done, all the plastic is final coat and it should be primed this weekend. Threw on some yellow fogs too

it depends on what you plan on running. i have a d16z6 in my car, sitll obd0, and dont have the oil pressure sensor wired up. it is only necessary if you are obd1 using a p28 or other stock vtec ecu.. if your using a vafc and pm6 or whatever else, its not necessary and you CAN put a bolt in it instead of an unplugged sensor

So what you're saying is you r not using a P28 for this swap, but r using a Pm6 ( which has no vtec anyways). ? So you're not going to run VTEC right? Because in that case, then no you don't need the oil pressure, but if you r going to run VTEC, and do use a P28, then keep the oil pressure there, don't leave it off, and try to run ghetto VTEC.

i have no p28 or even the oil sensor, i have a pm6 with field sfc to control, i didnt really plan on doing the mini me and just boosting the a6 and using the z6 im, but i might go mini me turbo now... i can never make up my mind

well contrary to what along of people on here think.. the pm6 with a vtec controller works well. if you want to use turboedit, its even possible to have a pm6 that controls vtec for you.

go ahead and swap the heads.. but id lap the valves while you have the head off.

The 4dr front end isn't looking all that great . . .

The only people who say that are the people who haven't experienced a proper P28 setup.

so lets suppose i ran "ghetto vtec" which i know 99.9% of this community will flame me for. since oil pressure is a main part of vtec and i wouldnt have the oil pressure sensor hooked up how high of a risk am i of ruining my engine? just a reminder but i am boosting as well and hoping to have the setup handle 5-8 psi DD. i am looking to keep this motor going as long as i can and dont want to risk it for some vtec and a few more hp.

also would it be possible to run a pressure gauge where the oil pressure sensor would go?
