Default My slightly screwed engine.....greatest 98,000 miles of my life

Cordillia had her last event this weekend on her stock engine at 98,000 miles. On Sunday after the 2nd heat, I noticed a knocking coming from the engine right after my instructer soloed me

So onto Migs trailer she went back to my house. Last night I ripped out the engine to find this.

I think that's just because of the coolant that got sucked in due to the crappy ANR intake mani gasket -> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1427724

A little bit of carbon build up.

After pulling the rods/pistons out, I noticed the OEM hash marks were still there with no damage on the walls.

Anyone spot the problem?

On top of that, some of my piston ring on cylinder 1 fell out.....

Here's a little bit of gold flake I found in the oil pan

I got off the phone with Len a minute ago and hopefully the rebuild will run me barely under $500.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated

Why bother? That C5 would keep the car in a numbers matching state and looks to be easily fixable from the pics.

Are H22's already down to $500 for the whole swap? if not it'll be more expensive to lower the resale value to boot.

Get the crank inspected/measured (or Mic it yourself). Just make sure the crank will be ok... if so, the normal hone/ring/bearings should do the job

Just kidding.

Motorsport ranch is pretty fun, sucks to have motor problems.

Occasionally, I have doubts about Honda reliability. Thank god these aren't German cars.

Is this before or after you gave the car more than double the hp it came from the factory with?

i might suggest going with a .25mm (.010") overbore, with some ctr oversized pistons, so the cylinders are round again (they become ovular over time).

also check to make sure that the crank is still perfect. many times, when you hear a rod knocking, you have partially spun a bearing. this will normally mess up a rod journal on the crank, and even screw up a rod.

How about since you have this thing apart, why not replace the OEM parts with forged internals? Then you can really beat on it, with less worry. This makes absolute and complete sense.

Yeah, sleeving a block and putting in forged pistons and rods is a no-worries proposition. Right Brandon?

I'm laughing at you, but am serious about my comment on forged internals. You and I both know first hand (more than once) the benifits of forged internals.

We know about the pitfalls of boosting with stock internals, that's for sure

I'm in the same boat as you...
Sorry to hear of the headache, good luck!

I bet if I open my motor right now, it look like yours. But I am looking into warranty options at this point. Blowing it up was pretty cool tho. I thought I would be all upset and worried

98K miles on the original motor? Consider yourself lucky taking into account the way ITR owners drive their cars.

What if it's the dealer that suggests using warranty?
