Are Crank Pulleys Safe
[QUOTE]
How safe are Unorthodox racing crank pulleys for a type r ? What about the harmonic vibrations at high RPMS? Thanks

DIDO I want to know the same thing.

Unless you are using the car for a full race application where you are going to be stripping the motor routinely, dont get the unorthodox racing pulleys. The UR pulley is too small for the OEM harmonic dampener. WIthout the dampener your crank pretty much kills the first crank bearing within maybe 30k or so. Get the AEM, they dont replace the stock crank pulley to keep the harmonic dampener.
quite the contrary.....I'm up to 81,000 miles with the UR full set. The car runs like a champ during 30 min track sessions & I obviously drive it everyday
**note to others - the aluminum crank pulley will shave aluminum like a wood lathe when the AC tensioner pulley breaks & wedges against it while driving! I think I know why I know this - do you??** You gotta love faulty bolts that shear off all by themselves.
BudMan - I LOVE the ur pulleys. good quality, great fit.

Many people have run them without problems (i.e. BudMan), and some have experienced premature bearing failure.
This is an old argument with no clear answer.
You be the judge.

I run the UR pulleys and have taken them to 9500 RPM+ and over 80,000 miles with them. Zero problems whatsoever. I always install if we are building up a motor.

What about running the AEM p/s and alt. pulley kit? IS it safer than chainging the crank pulley? Also, which would make more power, changing the crank pully like unorthodox, or just changin the P/S and Alt like AEM? Always been curious.
i been using an unorthodox race pully for the last year on my car, and everything is still spinning freely, i had one on my hybrid civic for the 2 years that i drove it with no problems, and i havent seen anyone personally have problems with an unorthodox pully blowing up motors.but theres always that mystery person out there that has the unorthodox pully that put 4 holes in his block at idle, i figure its probably the same person that thought a factory jdm header gave him more power also
QuicK Off Topic ?: Is the Type R crank pulley the same as the GS-R pulley?

99 si. 51,000 miles with no a/c or p/s and Ultra R crank pulley and Ultra A alt. pulley. Stock crank and alt. pulley weighed in at 8 and a half lbs. Ultra R and Ultra A weigh in at 11oz. combined! No problems. Best money spent so far on the car. Dropping near 100lbs and gaining instant throttle responce well worth it. I say go for it. Oh and anyone thinking of loosing there power steering and swapping out the Si rack for a manual rack and you've never done this or talked to anyone that's done this talk to myself or Mike K. There are some parts you will need to make this work. I found out the hard way and had to overnight them
. Good luck man.

just wondering where can i get a the n1 ctr/itr underdrive crank pulley? it seems that every shop is out of stock or back order for a long time.........let me know which shop has them in stock
I may be smoking too much here, but doesn't Unorthadox make just a lightened full size pulley set? I guess I gotta do some research...

1.5 years and 85k miles on my motor and no problems at all. Never heard of an incident that was actually proved to have been caused by a UR pulley, sounds like B.S. to me.
