accord climate control swap for crx
just finished the swap from my broken stock controls(CRX) to the 1992 accord climate controls after seeing a pic of some guy that said he did it. Here's how i did it.
here's the wiring diagram i made for a Crx to 92 accord controls
<a href="http://s261.photobucket.com/albums/ii53/clmarbut/?action=view¤t=accorddiagram.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii53/clmarbut/accorddiagram.jpg" border="0" alt="accord climate"></a>
To use the 5 setting accord fan switch with my crx and not have an extra speed on my **** that does nothing, i found the accord ***** have blocks to keep them from going past the farthest settings. The width of a normal ziptie is the perfect amount to add on in this location to keep the **** from clicking all the way to the 5th setting. by the way, i have a prelude 4 position switch wired up in my dad's crx and his **** is in the same position for each setting as my modified accord switch. So i think it's useless to go out and search for one when the accord can work just as well. add material here.

bend in tabs on the old mounting points
i epoxied some tabs i made to the side of the controls. don't make them flush with the face. put them a little back because to be flush with your console cover these controls will have to sit forward a little.
my plugs in the back were almost not long enough so they are so tight they hold these controls in well. i used another ziptie to keep side to side movement down.
Now for the hard part: CABLES
First off, you have to flip the cable controls upside down on the back of the controls so you can route the cables from the correct side. too many bends in the cables will bind them up.
BEFORE
AFTER
you can also see i trimmed the thin black plastic around the arm to prevent any binding.
when you flip this thing 180degress the 2 mounts will be on the bottom and the 1 tall mount will be on the top. I cut the bottom mount the same length as the top two and it worked perfect. Then i used a longer screw to reach the top mount from the new slot
before
after
here's the long screw in the top mount
here's the cut bottom mount
Here's how i looped the ends of the cables and routed them to have no hard bends. I used zip ties till i figured out the angles to get them inline with the cable arm on the unit. tiny hose clamps ended up working great to secure the cables together and to keep them from sliding through the wall. You will also have to cut back the plastic housing on the cables because when you looped them you removed length, so to get the length back, cut just enough housing off to use all of the cable movement.
you can see on this one i routed the bottom cable through the glove box brace.
Alright, last thing to do to get these cables working right is to put something on the arm to keep them from falling down.....

and to modify the **** that goes on the temp control. We flipped the backside to get the cables to the controls but these new controls are still opposite in that when the crx ones' push in a direction, the accords' pull. To fix this you just have to spin the metal holder inside the **** 180 degrees. to do this you will have to cut out the plastic tabs that hold the metal piece in place. this will put the pointer on the **** where you want it and will point to the correct temp you are going for. i didn't realize this till i was done and my cold was hot and vice versa. I had to shave some metal off the post that the **** slides onto because when i spun it it was too tight.
before
this is after, i drilled and put in a tiny screw (with epoxy of course) to replace the tabs i cut out and to keep the thing from twisting out of position
thats all i can think of right now, any questions just ask. This crap was worth it to me, i love my new controls.
Imagestation closed on me so here's all the pics I could find on my PC 4 years later!!

Re: accord climate control swap for crx (uselesslabel)
Yeah, the accord cable arm is made of plastic instead of aluminum and is only meant for 1 cable instead of 2 but it felt pretty strong.

Re: accord climate control swap for crx (kcjohnnyboy)
for the cables i just made 2 loops out of the ends of each of them and then linked them together and wrapped them around the accord post.
the only downfall is either your heater or ac wont be completely open so i chose to have my ac all the way cold. The accord control just wont quite slide the cables all the way. no big deal though, the heater still gets warm. and the controls are a nice mint bluish color.

Re: accord climate control swap for crx (aal)
i got my controls off ebay for $20 shipped and had to go to the junkyard to get the harness plugs that go into the back of it. I had to rewire the whole thing which took me about 6 hours. The only problem is that the new accord controls have 6fan settings where the crx has only 4. i wired up the last four of the accords so that the first two do nothing. like having two more offs. I will fix this when i get to the salvage yard and pic up either a 88-91 prelude fan setting switch or a 94-97 accord switch. they both have 4 settings and use the same *****
I will get a write up going on this thing tonight with a lot more pics. the major mods are in the cables and you can really make them work however you want.

Re: (SECURITY)
the other thread only showed one picture of the controls installed and all the info it had was what fan switch to use but i figured out a way around that.

Re: (SRACHAD)
i think i can fix the cable issue of not opening the heater valve all the way by just adjusting the cable tighter.

Re: accord climate control swap for crx (SRACHAD)
GREAT right up, i did my wiring last night, and flipped the heater contorl this morning! very simple when follwoinf ur instructions!! just one gustion, when i have it on upper AND lower vent, it works fine, but the fan blows hard for a second, then slows down for a few, then go back blowing hard, and this is continous. Did i wire something wrong? Or is it the control them selfs are bad?
