B20 Swap in my 98 EK
I'm planning on replacing my blown sohc motor in my 98 civic ex coupe and I've been doing some research, but finding technical information on the swap has been kinda hard. I've seen a few post where everyone says they like their swap but seeing as this will be my first swap I'd like some help.
I'm just planning on doing a stock b20 for now and maybe a b20 vtec later down the road, but I just need the car up and running. I looked on password jdm and they had a b20 long block only for $599. I've looked around at the few sites I know for swaps and it seems like the best deal. So heres some questions.
1. I'm planning on using a b16 tranny with it since the b20 tranny can't be used. So which is better: hydraulic or cable and whats the differences?
2. Also, what ecu will I use? I have a P03 converted to p28 as well as my p2p, but those are both vtec ecus.
3. What axels and dizzy can I use with it?
4. Also, since I new, by a long block they mean block, head, IM, and header right? Ablige the newbie guys.
5. What motor mounts will I use?
Feel free to add anymore insight. Thanks guys

Hydraulic would be better because you wouldn't need to convert it from hydro to cable.
You can use an LS ECU (P75)
You will have to use 94+ teg axles, and either an LS dizzy or a B20 dizzy
Yes, a longblock is everything except the tranny, mounts, and shift linkage and axles.
You will use your stock single cam torque and tranny mount, 94+ Teg rear BRACKET, and 94+ teg driver side mount.

now is a p75 obd1 or obd2? I have the obd2 to obd1 conversion harness when I converted my d16y8 to obd1, so will I need that?
Also, is $599 plus shipping a good price for a stock b20 longblock (w/o shipping)?
Thanks for the help duggy, good info there.

yes look at http://www.hmotorsonline.com for the motor (good place) and if you get the cable tranny will have to convert to hydrolic. good place for your motor mounts is http://www.hasport.com not looked in a while but can't u add on the shift linkage and axles in a package deal thing?
So just make this nice and neat for my own good, my parts list would be as follows:
1. b20 long block
2. hydraulic b16 tranny
3. p75 ecu from LS teg
4. stock 94+ integra axels
5. stock b20 or LS distributor
6. stock sohc tranny mount
7. stock torque mount (which mount would that be?)
8. 99-00 Si rear engine mount
9. stock 94+ LS drivers side engine mount
10. 99-00 Si shift linkage
The stock sohc tranny mount will work with a b16 tranny? and where is the "torque mount" located? Thanks guys, great help so far.

one correction, you have to use a 99-00 Civic Si rear mount/bracket because the LS/GSR rear mount is too long in one section, they look very similar but when you set that rear mount in, it's gonna be a few MM's off
I editted the parts list to include the rear Si mount. Thanks for the info on the tranny.
For the guys out there with b20 swaps, what transmissions are you using with the motor?

I would go with a GS-R tranny thier built really good and they can handle the power i have a b20 in a 95 civic with a b16 tranny and in 3 days 3rd was gone and just down hill from thier. if you get a JDM GS-r tranny then you will be LSD. you could always get a ls tranny but it will slow you down ALOT because it has the longest gears of any B-series trannys. SO if i was you i would go with the GS-R.

Do not listen to this dude!
Get the B16 tranny, buy an ITR lsd and 4.785 FD, and have fun with short gearing and TONS of B-series TORQUE!!!!

Oh yea, good one. So the shift linkage from a 99 - 00 Si should work, right? I included it in the parts list.

Yea, I'd pretty much planned on using a b16 tranny anyways. Its just a stock b20 for now, and when it starts making more power then I'll upgrade the tranny later on. But I'm about to get married so I'm on a limited budget so i don't think I'll be able to include an ITR LSD and the final drive. I don't plan on ripping this thing to shreads until we have a 3rd car. I just need the vehicle to run. This swap is just the base plan for my future monster.

I plan on starting to accumulate parts tonight or tomorrow hopefully. This WILL be my first swap and I think i can handle it. I'd really love to avoid paying a ton of labor charges to complete a straight forward job. I've read that b-series swaps are pretty simple and I've always performed my own motor work so i love to learn. the most motor work I've performed was my cam/ cam springs installed and removing and installing the head on my sohc motor, so if I can do that, I should be able to complete this swap with some helpful online articles, a hanes manual, and a few import enthusiastic friends right?
Ok well I ordered the motor among other things from passwordjdm.com and this is what I have coming in the mail.
1. Stock b20 longblock
2. 99-00 Si shift linkage
3. all the motor mounts I'll need
4. exedy clutch and flywheel
So all I need now is the:
1. LS or b20 dizzy
2. p75 ecu
3. 94+ integra axels
4. b16 hydro tranny
5. LS intake manifold
I was talking to one of the guys I work with and we started talking about wiring issues, since he had a bunch when he swapped a b16 into his crx. Are there going to be some serious wiring issues with this swap? I have an obd2 - obd1 conversion harness from boomslang, but I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to wiring. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm not sure, but in my case it doesn't matter because I just bought all new motor mounts for the swap anyways. Someone answer this mans questions!
if you're gonna wire it for obd1 and use the conversion harness then you'll need an obd1 P75 ecu.
if it's wired for for obd2 then obviously use an obd2 P75.
i'm almost 100% on this.
I have and OBD2 P75 if you need it. let me know

ok thanks for the info on the intake manifold. will a gsr manifold work because i think one of my friends has one of those laying around that I may be able to use. I'll work on getting the rest of those parts. as far as the p75 ecu, i have the conversion harness so I'll just hunt down an obd1 p75 ecu. Thanks though.
