Default WCHC Edo Motorsports race report/PICS: Buttonwillow 2005

The race report can be found here:
http://www.edomoto.com/reports.html

SATURDAY:
We came into this weekend knowing that we did not have much tread left on our 225/45/15 Toyo's so we had to make it last. We got to the track at about 8am and unpacked everything and got the car ready with the 14" wheels for practice at 9am to make sure the car runs perfectly. Everything in practice went well as Edik had the fastest lap and went faster than the lap record set Rick Hohwart(2:06). Lap record was still not broken as it has to be done in the race only. Edik came back to the pits and we put the 15" Kosei's on the car and made sure everything was in place and all the fluids were at the right level. Qualifying came around and Edik drove hard and took pole with Steve 2nd and Jeremy 3rd.

There were about 10 people in H4 and only one in H1 driven by Ryan. Ryan had the fastest lap out of the Honda's so he was positioned on the inside while Edik on the outside with Steve and Sam on the second row because Jeremy was late to the grid. On the Green flag Ryan fell behind and Edik took the overall lead with Sam following very closely behind. After a couple of laps of lead and follow, Sam had an unfortunate incident with the tires on the last turn with Ryan right behind him. Ryan was able to pass Edik and slowed him down in a couple of areas while Steve was trying to catch up to Edik for the H4 class lead. Ryan, in his H1 Integra, was able to pull away from Edik in the last couple of laps. Edik crossed the finish line first in H4 to win another race and the set a new lap record with a 2:04.2.

SUNDAY:
We practiced with the 14" wheels again on Sunday to save tread on the other tires. Edik did a great job and qualified pole for the second straight day with a 2:03:9. After the qualifying session, we bled the brakes and rotated the tires as the tread was wearing thin, and did our usual checkups on the car.

Unfortunately, Edik fell behind on the start of the race to 4th place with Gus in the lead and Steve and Jeremy right in front. Edik was able to get around Jeremy in turn 2 and hunting down Steve and Gus next. Steve was able to get around Gus with Edik doing the same thing. The tough part came because Steve wasn't going to give Edik the lead. After numerous attempts to pass with no racing room given. Edik was finally able to get by with Steve pushing Edik to the edge of the track. Edik had some tire issues as the tires were losing grip, and had an off on the last turn but was able to keep the car straight and pull it back on track with the lead down to only 4 car lengths. It happened again at the Sweeper turn Edik had a long off but was able to get back on the track safely, but Steve had taken the lead. Edik was now in second place with not many laps to go in the race. He was able to put down some very fast laps and catch up to Steve. The struggle with racing room began again with Edik right behind Steve. Edik caught up to Steve right before the last turn. They went into the turn side by side and Steve went into the dirt as he hit the brakes too late and Edik regained the lead with as amazing pass with no contact. Edik took the checkered flag for H4 and the overall lead in group C. Steve took 2nd with Jeremy in 3rd. Edik also set the fastest lap of the weekend for H4 and broke Saturday's record with a whopping 2:03.3.

It was a great weekend for us as we used up all the tread we could on the Toyo's. They looked like slicks at the end of Sunday's race. They barely lasted 2 weekends on a front running DA. We also picked up 20 points on Steve in the Championship Points and can hopefully finish it off in the last race weekend of the season at Buttonwillow on November 12,13. See you guys there!
