A friend's car I had tuned is having problems. The motor has about 3,000 miles on it. Resleeved, forged pistons, forged rods, full valve train, etc.

He starts driving to work this morning and smells oil. Pulls over. Catch can is full and overflowing. Missing some coolant. Drives it to a friend's shop. Compression test. 190 across. Leakdown test. 1% - 3% across. A little bit of milk under the valve cover. Pulls the head. Replaced the Cometic non copper sprayed gasket with an OEM copper sprayed gasket. Drains the catch can. At this point I get out of work early to come to the shop. Startup the car and bleed the cooling system. Drive no more than ten minutes back to his house boosting at most 3lbs not going above 4,000RPM. Catch can is full and overflowing again. Decide to call it a night. He is at the point he wants to pull the motor. I told him to let me post up and see what people think. I have two ideas at this point. Pictures of the catch can setup.

are the block fittings endyne ones ??? or just the honda ones ??

 

I'm almost positive they are Honda fittings so they are not anti siphon.

 

that is the problem , they make a vacum with out the tube and actually suck the oil out of the motor ,

I was using the honda fittings, and I didn't have any problems. Personally I would rule that out.

how does he have the PCV setup?

Without the tube?

 

that is the problem , with out the tubes it makes a suction and pulls the oil out of the motor , i had the same problem when i did mine , and the milky stuff is probly cus the oil did not get hot enoff yet to boil out the condensation, just dont get on it until the oil is over 210 degr

 

I don't understand what you mean by "tubes". he has the "tubes" installed from the pics.

 

When I first tuned his car I had mentioned to him the anti siphon fittings, etc. I didnt think it would be this dramatic. Going from the block, up the tubes, filling the can and overflowing it.

What exactly did he do to modify them?

It would be sweet, if I could just modify them instead of buying new fittings...

 

This is an idea. A cheap and easy one at that. It's weird after 3,000 miles though. Will give it a try as soon as we get the fittings. Where can these be found?

Yes it is quite a bit of oil. Enough to say/think wtf is going on. Atmospheric vent. I will PM you.

 

If anyone knows where to get these fittings please post up a web address, phone number, etc. I'm going to sleep to dream about lots of smoke and oil

 

i would drian the can back into the driver side vent line. i have mine drian back into the block and havent overfilled the can with over 100 dyno pulls to 9,800 rpms.

i dont think the honda fittings you have now would be that big of a problem.
in dasher's writeup on crankcase venitliation you'll notice he ran this same setup for a long time without a problem.
he says his catch can would fill up with unburned fuel/other contaminants, but very little oil.

You dont have a drain. the bottom of the can should drain back into the block. tee off one of the lines and have it drain in there.
