Default DIY ICEBOX

Heres my DIY Icebox
First (dont ask how I got this) I modified a tacoma Injen intake arm to go from the tb to the box.(i think you can use a gsr sri if you cut down the filter side)

Then I cut the small stock peice that comes out of the bottom of the box that goes from oval to round.(its actually a little bit lager than 3 inch alum pipe) and slid this jackson intake arm, from god knows what, into the cut oval.

Then after the vertical pipe I needed to go around the radiator and tow hook.. I used high heat flex hose(used to relocate exauhs fumes,, like from a dyno)
its difficult to see... sorry i didnt feel like removing my splash guards

After making a U turn around the radiator and tow hook I used a small slice of 3 inch pipe to finish off the flex hose.. cut out the block off in the stock bumper where the factory fog light would be.

Finally I installed the Comptech UNI filter.

now the question you guys keep askin ... did it make power???
yes but not much
I straped it to the dyno ran three times without the top of the box on and three with the top on. in a time span of 30min
Made an average of 2.75 hp from 3000-6500 and 1.5 up to 8500
and 3 lbstrq 3000-5000 and 2.5 lbstrq 5000-7500 same for the last 1000rpm

Now real world figures would probly be larger cause wind speed increases.. we have pretty good fans on the dyno but the street would have much much more air flow.

This whole thing was done to keep the lovely california police men happy when they ask you to pop the hood and to save my *** some cash..this was after my civic was jacked..lost over $10,000 so my teg mods were on a very tight budget. I on a regular basis I use the factory arm and a k&n filter. but now that im in new mexico where theres no such thing as smog I run the alum. arm and UNI filter.

When I run the UNI filter its not a perfect seal on the back of the filter but I still manage to suck up leaves from time to time so theres really no need to seal the back of the filter.

Here you can barly see where it comes up to the front

sweet... so with the top of the air box off, did it make more power as if the top of the box was on?

You should spray the piping that shows through the front BBQ black or flat black.

Would be 10x better

NICE DIY!

That's a good idea making an ice box using an aftermarket short ram and a stock air box.

reminds me of the comptech setup.

and its an 4hp & 5lbstrq between the stock arm w/k&n filter and the alum. arm and UNI filter.. the UNI in the +.. thats only because I have cams, opened up gsr manifold, and jdm ITR header and cat

just curious, why did you use the jackson intake instead of just that stock black pipe... you know that goes from oval to round? set up looks sweet, good job man

...hence the piping going down to the bumper. Have you seen a real icebox before?

its pulling in colder air and the size of the box is actually compressing it... im not saying like a turbo or a blower..but what do both of those do??? compress and force the air into the motor... this is slightly compressing the cold air the motor is pulling in,, witch is gold on a naturally asperated motor.

I used the jackson pipe because when it came to attaching the flex hose it was at the perfect height and it was the same diameter as the flex hose, and it looked like it would work better because the stock pipe coming out of the bottom of the box had like baffles in it.
