OK, here's the story. Installed blue top 450's on my boosted Accord today. Of course after something like that, a street-tune is required. So my buddy (LSVT3C 91 CIVIC) came by the house and we hooked up his LM-1 wideband. We took it around made numerous pulls until we had it reading 12.5 AFR accross the board. She was running BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Gave her a few hard pulls and everything was wonderful.
UNTIL.... we pull up to a light waiting to turn and notice a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay. So I pulled into the next gas station, killed the car, and popped the hood. OIL EVERYWHERE!!!!
I went through checking a couple of the obvious things... oil pressure guage feed line, turbo feed line, pressure sending unit, etc. Nothing... couldn't find where it was coming from. Manny then noticed that the top left bolt holding the valve cover on was missing. After a little looking we found the bolt..... THE THREADS WERE BROKE OFF IN THE HEAD!!!! What in the hell would cause this bolt to snap???
We were close to the Home Depot so we walked over to see what we could rig up just to drive it home without loosing anymore oil. We got it fixed and when I fired it back up I noticed there was a lot of blow-by coming from the breather filter. I'm thinking,"great... better call the bank." Start checking what we can and find out that the #1 cylinders plug "hole" has about 1.5" of oil sitting in it.
Best case scenario: The oil around the plug is causing the blow-by and only the bolt needs to be replaced.
Worst case scenario: Engine is done

And an obviously angry GOD he was!!
A bolt breaking at your time/milage interval can only be caused by several considerations; corrosion or multiple over tightening.
I think we can dismiss the corrosion theory since it's pretty much in an oil bath; so that leaves us with the overtightening senario.
Probably over the course of time the covers been off several times and installed without a torque wrench. Do that several times, and throw in a 'tweek' once in a while for the 'old oil leak, and "plink" the bolt stretches to its' limit and breaks.

its a good think you didnt try to pwn someone, because that probably would have made you feel 10x worse about everything when you were pulling the car at its hardest when it messed up

lol 12.5 is lean? i think you've got it backwards bro thats pretty rich for a honda, but about perfect for a turbo honda. lean would be like a 15-17:1 AFR

Well, bad news.... 170 150 70 80 . Those are the results of the compression test
Guess it's time for a new motor
Guess it's time for a new motor
Not yet ......... Those readings would seem to indicate a blown cylinder head gasket between the two last cylinders. Yanking the head may be well worth it.
Did you do a wet compression test? If no improvement in readings, refer above. If they do improve, suspect rings / piston lands

Head gasket???
But would that cause the blow-by???

^^ agreed. but the results are not promising. you usually don't get blow by with a blown head gasket.
12.5:1 is too lean IMO under boost, you guys should have been shooting for 11.5:1 or so. what system are you tuning with?

everytime i read something you say, i realize i dont give a expletive who you are, and no one else does...
EDIT: since when did HT turn on word filters??!
what kind of work was done to the motor internally?....
sounds like the EXACT same scenario one of my buddies is in....im guessing its rings...good luck man, and keep us updated

Stock ecu with the VAFC (poor mans hondata)
Anyway, think I'm just going to sell my setup and put out the cash for an H swap

idk how accord timimg maps run, but i know the vafc wtih turbo = mad timing. thats why it pulled nice, thats why it died. Before you run the car wtih the new motor, you might wanna look into crome, its a freeware similar to hondata and will make your motor last longer than this one.
Good luck

Been studying up on Uberdata and basic tuning. The only guy we have here in JVille that can tune UD is a crackhead that I wouldn't trust with filling my blinker fluid
But, I'm probably just going to sell the whole setup and go with an all-motor H. Don't wanna leave the darkside but n/a is so much more reliable
