Default how the heck do I get my ride height correct??

O.K., Its been awhile since I posted up in this section but I need some more advice now.. Last night I came up to the shop to lower my car. 1st I took of both rear wheels and measured the distance between upper and lower locking nuts on each coilover (ksports),....they were exactly the same........(dont remember what the measurement was but thats not the actual point). So I went ahead and shortened the distance by 1/2". I then put the wheels back on and measured the distance from ground to fender well on each.........PERFECT!!!.......... ok, cool,.....so next I took off the front 2 wheels and measured the distance between locking nuts just like I did on the rear. This time the left side was a bit shorter than the right. (like maybe 1/8 of an inch) I got to thinking about it and it made sense bc of the transmission being on the right side of the car (it would need more spring).......... so then I went ahead and shortened those distances by 1/2" each and put the tires on.............THIS IS WHERE I GOT CONFRUZEDED

NOW THE LR FENDER WELL IS 1/2" LOWER THAN THE RR AND THE RF FENDER IS ABOUT 1/4" LOWER THAN THE LF.

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? So could someone please explain to me the proper way to get the ride height correct on all four??.......or am I just over-reacting??? Im not even sure that it is SUPPOSED to be balanced from left to right. It seems logical for it to be but Im not sure at all. I remember someone telling me about cornerweighting but I havent the foggiest on how to check that or for that matter what it really means.

Sorry for the paragraph but I am very eager to understand the theory behind this stuff.

AND DONT TELL ME TO SEARCH,....I DID BUT THE ANSWERS I FOUND WERE TO VAGUE,.....I WANT TO U N D E R S T A N D WHATS GOING ON WITH MY COILOVERS, NOT JUST FIX THE PROBLEM

Thanks in advance

If you don't have the scales to corner weight, just set the spring perches at the same height, left to right. No, the car will not be perfectly level with the weight on the ground, and that is what you want. You do not want the car chassis level, the weight isn't even from left to right. It wasn't level stock either.

When they corner balance a car, they lower the heavier side, making it even lower than if the spring perches were level. This puts more weight on the lighter side. Sorry, I'm not the best at explaining things...

thanks, that explains the theory of corner-weighting. What kind of scales do you use to do that??

Honestly... its sounds like your car is fine. I dont know what kind of car you have but the way the tranny sits can make the difference! It will never be perfect and the more that you lower a car the more unbalnced it will be!

that makes me feel a lot better about it but I still have the issue of corner-weighting (balancing,.....whatever) and Im 100% sure that my preload isnt right. I know Ive heard mixed emotions about preload but it seems to me that if less shock body is under the upper locking nuts on the left side, that the tension on that side would be greater than the left, thus resulting in un-linear shock/damper performance.

allright, lets get started,

first of all you must understand that if a corner is adjusted the corner diagonal will
change also, therefore, if left front is lowered the right rear will rise. why? look at it this way. if you were to fix a rectangular board held above a table in the center by a post and were to push the the left front what happens? the right rear comes up. the post acts like the center of gravity and the four corners represent the shock spring combo.
using that knowledge, have an idea where you want your corner heights, adjust the
left front then check the right rear and so forth. it takes time the first go around. it took
my team and i forever to set up a stock car for a superspeedway the first time.

good luck, any questions just ask.

listen up you are over reacting with this just measure your coilover with a measuring tape or count the threads from front to back and side to side make sure
that they are all the same. that should be about it, i think your are being to **** about all this.

I AM very **** about my car. My goal is to have a daily driver that I can out-corner my buddys m3 with. Thats not relly the purpose of this thread. I wand to UNDERSTAND how the suspension upgrades Ive done affect the handling of my car to the point that if/when I decide to autocross,.... I will know how to go about tuning the suspension. I dont want to be told WHAT to do,.... I want to UNDERSTAND what Im doing it and what it does to the aspects of handling that Im working on @ that time.

Thanks for all the info,.. Im going to get back on the suspension this weekend hopefully
