I use 1000 grit, and if that isn't good enough, use 800 grit first then use 1000 grit to clean up. Then I use Mother's metal polish to polish the lenses. I've use Meguire's, but that **** sucks. I'll use that stuff after I use Mother's polish

Wow, I have the same problem, I've been looking for new headlights, but they are so damn expensive and rare for the 5th gen.
More info on how to re-furbish them would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, just have a spray bottle with water, and 800-1000 grit sand paper. Make sure you keep the lense wet while sanding it down. Should take about 10-15min. on each lense depending on how bad of shape they're in

Inspired by this thread, I decided to re-furbish my nasty weathered headlights. Here's how:
1. Wet-sanded it with 800 grit waterproof sandpaper (gets rid of big scratches and a good chunk of crap, but creates small scratches)
2. Wet-sanded it with 1500 grit waterproof sandpaper (gets rid of small scratches, but leaves a haze)
3. Used a 3M Small-Medium Scratch removing liquid stuff (rub hard... gets rid of haze and small scratches).
4. Waxed to make sure all the little holes got filled up (makes it look crystal clear and pretty).
Note: the look can be enhanced even further if I had a buffer handy.
My headlights went from "so ugly that I have to avert my eyes when I look at them", to gorgeous crystal clear, almost brand new look.
