ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series, 4th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Sport Compact Fallnationals presented by Toyo Tires listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Thomas Borgla Runs 11.701/111.94, Now #2
Right Lane: Jesus Padilla Runs 9.880/133.33, Now #1

1:16 p.m. When the Sony Xplod series came to Englishtown in the spring, five new national records were set, we could see more of the same this weekend. Padilla won the All Motor class here in May, he lays down our first nine in the first pair. Wow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Lisa Feeheley Runs 12.413/101.32, Now #4
Right Lane: Scott Kelley Runs 10.293/130.00, Now #2

Kelley's team was hoping to have their new Toyota here this weekend, no word yet why they are running the VW this weekend...

Great lap for Kelley, he had a .005 reaction time to go with it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Vince Tiaga Runs 11.017/118.72, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Shagday Runs 10.082/132.21, Now #2

Vince's Mazda is one of the newest in the All Motor category, he may have lifted at the top end of the track. Nice lap for Shagday, he trails Padilla by a tenth in this round.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Not on File Runs 10.041/132.27, Now #2
Right Lane: Shawn Hillier No Time, Now #8

No information yet for the driver in the left lane... Hillier broke on the line, one of the crew members left a shoe on the starting line area as the car was pushed back. Looks like traction is killer here at E-town this weekend! 1:21 p.m.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Hot Rod at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series, 4th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Sport Compact Fallnationals presented by Toyo Tires listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Stephanie Eggum Runs 9.315/162.06, Now #2
Right Lane: Kenny Tran Runs 8.280/178.57, Now #1

1:23 p.m. The national record in Hot Rod is 7.82, set by Ron Lummus in Las Vegas. Eggum left first, but Tran ran right down the groove to the top spot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Mike Crawford Runs 19.188/76.76, Now #4
Right Lane: Paul Bhawan Runs 11.030/85.10, Now #3

Crawford bogged off the line, the motor may have died. Mike was able to get things going after coasting to the halfway point. Bhawan's problems started at half track, he was coasting as he crossed the finish line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Gary Gardella Runs 9.299/103.44, Now #3
Right Lane: John Shepherd Runs 8.717/169.49, Now #2

Lots of tire spin off the line for Gardella he suddenly pulled over toward the wall and coasted the rest of the way. The motor was silent as Gary crossed the finish line, we're down for a check of the track.

Shepherd's Talon has all-wheel drive, John Shepherd's incremental times: 60ft-1.673 sec., 330ft-4.047, 660ft-5.869/134.86mph, 1,000ft-7.421. 1:28 p.m.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Ron Lummus Runs 8.072/185.31, Now #1

Big speed for Lummus, he started trailing a wisp of smoke at the 1000-foot mark. By the finish line it was a large cloud coming out from under his race car. The smoke cleared quickly, he may have sacrificed some engine parts at the top end of the track. The track is dry, so the call comes for the next class... 1:33 p.m.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Modified at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series, 4th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Sport Compact Fallnationals presented by Toyo Tires listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Ken Scheepers Runs 16.388/74.60, Now #2
Right Lane: Not on File Runs 13.282/144.50, Now #1

Both drivers had a lot of tire shake off the starting line. No information yet on the driver in the right lane.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Luis Corujo Runs 8.357/146.94, Now #2
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 7.753/174.77, Now #1

Humphrey's trails Paul Efantis by just 55 points - he's hoping to take the points lead this weekend.

Wow! Humphrey's just blasted both ends of the National records on this pass, he'll need to run 7.831 or better to back up the ET, and 173.02 or better for the speed backup

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Jose Mendez Runs 8.575/154.67, Now #3
Right Lane: Jose Ramos Jr Runs 9.341/136.19, Now #4

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro FWD at the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series, 4th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Sport Compact Fallnationals presented by Toyo Tires listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Lane: Shaun Carlson Runs 9.735/90.93, Now #1

Carlson's engine was not happy with the tuneup for this pass, the motor coughed and banged all the way to the stripe.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Jason Hunt Runs 8.253/177.63, Now #2
Right Lane: Marty Ladwig Runs 7.569/195.05, Now #1

Jason Hunt went right down broadway - a good baseline run for the Matco tools team to tune with.

Ladwig and the rest of the Chevy team have been testing recently...

Both drivers had clean runs, Ladwig's speed is just 2.49 mph off the current speed record. Nice! Jason Hunt's incremental times: 60ft-1.417 sec., 330ft-3.715, 660ft-5.489/140.72mph, 1,000ft-6.986
Marty Ladwig's incremental times: 60ft-1.289 sec., 330ft-3.490, 660ft-5.079/158.89mph, 1,000ft-6.427. 1:45 p.m.

He already wrapped it up. I guess he didn't want to spend the big $$$ to go to the east coast.

I think they finally found their problem, so the car should be more consitent now. We'll see how this weekend goes for them. It should be a very consistent 8.20 car.
