Default Who wants a gauge-mounting solution?

I've seen a number of crappily mounted gauges lately, and I wasn't happy with where I had mine (in the spot where the radio normally goes), so with my brother's help, we figured out something different.
This is based loosely on a much older picture I had seen of someone who used fiberglass in the same spot, though with a different design that proved to be unacceptable due to the angle of the gauges with respect to the driver.
So anyway, here are the pics:

These are in an EG Civic, but the design could be replicated in just about anything. For those who don't know, that IS replacing the vents that normally reside there. If anyone happens to be interested in something like this, let me know and my brother can most likely work something out.

Autometer made something like that too.

I've seen the Autometer one and didn't care for it.

Hi all, i mad this pod for my brother. I made it in such a way so it faces the driver whil eon track, easier to read less effort to look at the gages. There is no room to fit a third gage unless i dont make it angled, or if i trim out part of the dash piece.

I can make one of these or one similar if anyone is interested. All aluminum, and completely removable. This particular one is removable, but i had to cut out the center part of the dash piece to fit the oil pressure gage in because i didnt havemuch room to work with because its facing the driver. If there is any intrest please let my brother or i know.

Looks cool casey.

I would get one if i had an EG, but integra's have cool spots for it where dimmer would go.

Looks nice though.

Neat! I don't doubt this will work commonly across many of the post 91 Hondas. You might want to think about doing something across the change tray/map tray area for the earlier cars ( this is what we did but its a bit over the top for what you are making - http://www.ipsolve.com/racestu...0.jpg | http://www.ipsolve.com/racestu...4.jpg). It seems like you could hook over the same way like we did but keep it compact like you have done in yours above. Again, very neat - it seems like a real nice use of space.

BTW, is it just the one screw to the front left that holds it in place?? If so, man that must be easy to pop in and out (very nice if so!).

No actually its a delrin shift **** from Delta Group. Momo and OMP suits actually - thought I read that even Mr. Sparcodelic himself favors the Momo now that he's seen one up close.

i made small clips, there are 3 screws that hold the pod in place with the 3 clips, remove the screws, disconnect the gages, and you can reinstall your vent. No drilling of the plastic neccessary. If you want them facing you a lil, you gatta cut out the centerbar betweenthe two vent holes.

Eventually we'll have to get some pics of the thing off the plastic console piece. Phat, that's a good idea you have as well. We'll have to look at other model dashes and see what can work.

Gotcha - I guess it was optimistic to only think it was one screw to hold it - I wasn't sure how it was secured.

ssc, its practical for my wants but definately over the top for what you are doing. If you could use that ledge at the front to mount yours (like what we have but zero height above the dash) and remove the vents, you might end up w/ almost no profile whatsoever on the EF cars. Good luck.

.RJ, I am disappointed it doesn't meet your asthetic standards - seems to work pretty well ergonomically speaking but yeah, never sold myself as the blingiest guy in the world.

RJ has a shift **** phobia. He still gives me grief over my screamin' yellow plastic one...cast in an empty Tylenol bottle .

Adam, you might want to consider painting that guage housing satin black to keep the glare down. Nice job .

Seriously man that thing is hideous!

You could turn ITS times if you had one of these!

Just think of the possibilities..... the transient response of your gearbox would be outstanding!

ssc, I think you could do something like this to mount it (have a curved back side to it that you can mount into that lip) but use the shape you have in yours above - http://www.ipsolve.com/racestu...7.jpg

I think it would have been cool if you left a few gel-caps in there

Yeah, I actually did start to lean in that direction but either Harry or Walt suggested that I run it through the media blaster instead. Pretty cool effect as I don't recall any glare in the windsheild, its brushed (blasted?) aluminum I guess (maybe you can see in the pic here http://www.ipsolve.com/racestu...6.jpg ). And that is a lot of help from Harry there, that's not all me. The fuel door and trunk releases, they were me

I managed to snag a brand spanking new still in the baggie OE Honda shift **** on ebay for $8.
I don't need no stinkin bling. I like flat black and OE baby.

Scott, who admits he's lacking in internationizzleness and WAY prefers function over form.

"Hey, why is your fuel door release clamped to the cage?"
"Uhhh... So I can reach in and release the fuel door."
"But its ugly."
"OK."

Why do you even have a shift ****? You do a whole lap of Road Atlanta in 4th!

...for that matter...why do you have a brake pedal .

Hey, I shift upwards of 8 times a lap... Sometimes.

Actually the **** is for the CRX. It has 1 through 5 on it.
Although Blake has been trying to get me to install a 5 speed shift **** on the Civic for 2 years just to see if someone will protest my tranny based on the ****.
I have to admit that it would be funny.

So you copied my release location? I am flattered I'm being copied ... just that part about it being ugly - that's where you must have taken the road less travelled.

Phat, what the hell's your name? I'm Adam. Moving on. The curved backside you're talking about, do you mean like a curved plate on the back? If so, that'd actually make it more difficult, as there's this pillar thing on the EGs between the two vents. That could be cut out, but it's used to help secure this whole unit.

As for painting, I may get around to that at some point, but it'd be more to make it a little less conspicuous (this thing is driven on the street and attracts enough attention as it is). Glare hasn't been an issue, since that is I guess brushed aluminum and is fairly dull.

I have to say that the fuel cage and rear hatch mounted on the cage behind the seat was probably the best modification I ever made. I just couldn't believe that it took me a year to figure it out. Now 2 years with it there, I don't know how I could stand it where it was.
