Changed brakes... not parking brake goes high up
hey everyone... it got 96 accord lx... I changed the brakes yesterday (only the rear drums) and for some reason, the ebrake handle goes much much higher than before. The handle actually goes up about 9-10 notches while before it only went up a couple. My buddy tried tightening/loosen the circle thing inside the drums for the ebrake and this is the closest we could get it without the brakes dragging. We even bled the brakes and it still does that. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks for the help.
is that a standard procedure when the drum brakes are changed? Also, are you talking about adjusting the brake inside the car?
before doing any adjustment inside the car did you properly adjust the rear brakes from the star adjustment at the shoes??? it is very rare to make e-brake adjustment at inside the car if rears are adjusted properly
well, tell me if I did this wrong. I adjusted the star adjuster to the point where the brakes are a notch from dragging. If I adjust the star one notch more, it seems as if the brakes drag when I put the drum back on and turn it. Is there a trick to this or am I just doing this all wrong?
I think you want to adjust them with just enough drag to stop them at about one complete revolution when you spin 'em by hand.....meaning just a little drag.

you might want to recheck all u did ,,,,,,,,,i have done hundred of rear shoes and never had to adjust the e-brake from inside the car ,,,,,,,if u adjust the brakes properly and all is correctly in place , with new shoes you will get 4 to 7 clicks on the e-brake ,that's a normal e-brake adjustment .
.Unless someone loosened the e-brake from the adjuster nut in the center console u should not have to adjust it from there ,,

The starwheel adjusters or the automatic ratchet adjusters back at the brakes are to compensate for brake shoes wearing out.
The adjustment in the console inside the car is to compensate for stretching cables.
If one is wrong, don't use the other to compensate. Then it'll all get messed up & confusing.
