LOL, I guess I've opened up a can of worms this time!

I can't talk about it yet, but I'll say that there will be more events exactly like that one in the near future, although they might not be under the name "Speedtrial". Hope that makes sense... stay tuned for details!

Yeah, I think they thought it was a base-model Sentra... until the first 7800-rpm blast up thru the climbing esses, that is.

That's pretty bad when you're scolded for being too fast on a racetrack. Did you cause any accidents? NO. Did you try to pass without a signal? NO. Did you do anything wrong? NO. Slow people need to watch their mirrors and let faster people go around... by giving a signal to pass! Sorry, but ignorance is hard for me to acknowledge, and instructors should know better.

If you are slow... let them go around you. U of all people should be familiar with this process.

Passing only allowed on designated straits.
No need to traumatize a novice 6 feet off their bumper through the twisties.

Passing is not guaranteed it is a privilege.

If I chose not to give a passing signal... the people behind me need to accept that.

Comments about my driving (also my students driving) need to be kept out of this discussion.

Tailgating is a NO-NO! That is the bottom line. You must give the car in front of you "breathing" room... then close up the gap once you are near a passing zone.

chad who encountered many SLOW itr's on track
even had to hit the altezzas on one of them!

Some people don't know that this (SpeedTrial) is a school... not a race.

You will not learn anything sucked up on the rear bumper of the car in front of you.
Except maybe some car damage when the car out-brakes you... or spins right in front of you.

Yes, but if you don't let somebody who is obviously faster than you or your student pass, then you have no right to complain about that person being too close to you... There are 3 straights to allow a pass in... all you have to do is point them by. No excuse for not doing so.

Well said, both of the students I instrusted did a great job at this. My thoughts are let them know your there, then back off until a passing zone. Sometimes they may not give you the pass signal, this is when you pit in yourself

I just drove around all day with my arm out of the window, letting everyone go by

I think this is dead on (not sure however if I am in the middle of one of you guys' running jokes). I tried to impart on my beginner that we did ourselves a disservice trying to stay on someone's *** from Nascar Bend through the Snake and were very likely to not get the point by cause we had that many turns to screw up and fall off the pace. I think the best practice is to show them you are there when you catch them up and then drop back. Practice your lines as you drop back and then make your assault with a couple of turns to go so that you show up on their butt when hitting the straight. Maybe not everyone would agree with that but the hell if I want a student trying to stay on someone's *** through a whole bunch of twisties - you never know how that other guy/gal will react.
