"REAL" Pricing for Integra Type R's...
Well, because of September 11th and the economy taking a crap, my ITR purchasing is getting delayed a few months, but I am getting closer than ever to buying my first (nice) car!! (No more SlowRX
). Anyway, I look around on the internet, and edmunds.com says a '98 ITR will go for around 12 grand. Then I go on Autotrader and see them going for around 20. I will be buying an ITR this summer, what can I expect to pay for a Championship White '98 ITR?
Is '98 a good year? Didn't they change the front bumper from 97->98? Any help is apppreciated, you ITR owners are the luckiest people

14-18K. I wouldn't pay more than 18K for a 98 ITR even if it had 27 miles on it.
BTW, nice to see you posting again.

yes, but as with mkiv's too the owners know how much the car is really worth and edmunds and kbb don't mean crap.
ITRs are NOT worth that much money anymore.
2000/2001s generally go for $20k-$22.5k, which is amazingly low depreciation when you consider that they were $24.5k new. 1998s go for between $17k-$18k.

Dominic, I couldnt agree with you more. After my first 2 months of searching I have come to a very disappointing conclusion. Most owners are extremely overpriced. Here is an example: Any 98 owner would want between 16,500-19,500 for their 98 with lets say 30k miles. A majority of those 98's are priced closer to the 19,500 range. The only problem with this is that the 2000 R's are priced at roughly 21k and with some negotiating it could be brought down to 19,500 or 20,000. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ASKING PRICE AS THE 98'S. This alone shows that the car is being WAAAAAYYYYY overpriced.
I know that it is rare, I know its fast, and I know its a quality vehicle, but my honest opinion is that most sellers need to be given a reality check to bring them back down to earth. Fair price for a 98 with 30,000 miles would be $17, anything more than that would mean that you would be better off paying $1000 or so more and getting a 2000.
My advice to the perspective buyer is that, as you will see, the 98's are priced rather high, so you can get a 2000 for a bit more than a 98 owner will sell you his vehicle. The owner does not want to lose money on the car, but being that its a 98, he/she cannot charge 20k for it, so being a seller of a 97-98 R is a tough situation, but the bottom line is that the car SHOULD be sold for a fair price.

the thing with pricing is pretty simple. Either you pay what the owner wants and buy the car or you dont pay what the owner wants and you go someplace else.
When you see 98's on a dealers lot going for 19-21k because they are "certified" used cars but KBB throws a price of 14-15k. Tell the dealer that and watch them point to the street and tell you to get a steppin'.

Perhaps - but I would guess that less than 1 in 100 ITRs went for below MSRP.

Would WinglessR please step up.. he couldn't sell his 2000 for 18.5. I think your numbers are slightly skewed.
Go to autotrader.com, cars.com and classifieds2000.com and look for Type-R prices. Most of the owners are dreaming (lots of $25k+ prices), but you would have to look very hard to find a 2000/2001 for $18.5k.

What would one expect to pay for a '98 ITR w/JDM HID front end in VERY good shape? Just curious.

I had an ITR (2000 PY) reserved for less than 23,500. And I know of some owners on this forum that paid less than 23,500, so it wasn't THAT uncommon on the newer ones at least. Anybody who paid over MSRP for a 2000+ is a moron.
I paid 18,500 for mine, 40k on the clock. I think I got a steal, despite what the market or whatever says. If an ITR is what you want and will make you happy, its worth whatever you pay. i'm not saying pay some guy $40K for a 98, but the difference between 19k and 17k is not a big deal. to me anyways. just my opinion
