WELDER: Need Help On Purchasing. Tell me if these will do or not, and which is best. *LIST*
Hey guys
Im definetely going to be buying a welder in the next while. Id love to learn the skill because it is very handy and Id also love to save the money. All I want is a very reliable welder that I can plug into a household outlet that doesnt need to be filled with gas and such that is capable of fabbing up things like downpipes, maybe a little harness bar fab, housework and general ****, nothing major or thick. I have a few auction in mind, most are used I think. Let me know which I should go for, trying to spend around $250 canadian OR LESS
THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONE ID WANT< COME WITH SPARE ****
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAP...=true
Specifically designed to use self-shielding flux-cored welding wire, eliminating any need for gas and regulators normal MIG welders require. Includes: 4'' spool of flux-core wire, spare .035'' welding tip, wire brush/hammer and welding mask.
* Self regulating feed control
* Thermal protection with warning light
* Carry handle on lid
* Input: 115 volt, 15 amps, single phase
* Welding current (2 settings) 63 to 68 amps (low), 79 to 90 amps (high)
* Duty cycle: 10% @ 80 amps, 18% @ 60 amps
* Wire capacity: 0.035'' or 0.030''
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Dual-Mig-13...wItem
Dual Mig 131 USED
Power Consumption 120 VAC, 60 Hz, 21 AMPS (Peak)
Welding current - 25-85 amps
Duty cycle - 20% @ 75 amps, 45% @ 50 amps, 90% @ 35 amps, 100 % @ 25 amps
Welding material size - 22 gauge to 5/32 "
Or maybe someone could just give me some minimul requirement, like the amp ratings and such, I really dont know what they are, and if the tips are expensive and masks and stuff. Are they worth going for, the one that comes witht he mask, wire, tips seems like a great deal.
EDIT:
I need to know if the first one will suit for making things like downpipes, manifolds, harness bars and little welding jobs
I found both of these units locally and dont know whic to get, the first one is cheaper but will it break or not be able to do the job or whateveR?
let me know
thanks

if you are going to buy something, at least get something that uses a gas bottle, welding flux core absolutly ******* sucks.
well i dont want to use gas, i know a lot of people can weld this type of **** without gas right?
i just need to do exhaust work and light fab work
LMK- gotta bid in like 10 min if i want the MIG-100

A lot of people use JB weld also... it's a matter of how shitty looking and unreliable you are willing for your work to be, in order to save some money.

Yes, it will WORK. It's like a bicycle...it will take you anywhere you want in the continental US...but will it take you there within the time constraints you have?
Likewise...the cheapo welding machine will work, but will not make a nice looking weld, and you may have a difficult time welding it such that it doesn't leak.

I HATE my Lincoln 100 flux core welder. serisouly I hate that thing. It was my first welder but I mean **** I would rather stick an exhaust then use that thing. The only redeeming factor it has going for it is that it runs on 110V so I can take it to job sites and tack random things together once every six months or so. I say death to the fluxcore !
I found a lot of nicely done manifolds and even a roll cage done with flux core though, like it does penetrate and everything right? Just doesnt always look as good?
Thats what my grinder is for haha

Well say I just wanted to use the fluxcore wire on the Dual Mig 131, would it be stronger alone without the gas VS the Mig100???
Just curious because I can exchange the unit I have for the 131 and have the option of gas but wont come with the mask and free fluxcore wire and ****.
i will ALWAYS only be doing light work like exhaust, manifolds, making **** around the house and maybe somelight body patch work

No a MIG welder uses gas. If you have a FCAW welder which is what you bought, you can't use gas. The cheaper Hobart MIGs are a very decent entry level welder and they run about $400.
I sense your enthusiasm, but you will soon be very disappointed with either of the above two machines. A functional entry level Lincoln or Miller MIG is in the $450-600 US new price range, a good MIG by either manufacturer is around $1,000 US. My rule of thumb is welders sold with "hand held" masks are not serious welders.
What can I say, save save save. I ran an infinately variable $100 SEARS ac stick machine for 30 years that I bought in high scool back in 1969. I re-engineered and rewound the inductor in it in 1970 so that I could stick weld auto body sheet metal and exhaust with 3/32 6011 rods. My wife got me my Lincoln Squarewave 275 TIG for Christmas in 2000. Sometimes you have to wait and make do.

Well Im only 19 (wasnt even close to being born in 69 let alone in high school) and Im just looking for something to make boxes and exhaust and ****
Im picking it up in about 2 hours, teach myself how to use it maybe in a week with a few hours a night practice on a whoel heap of variable thickness mild steel I got form work
