Transmission Clutch Lever Modification?
anyone ever shorten their clutch lever (on a cable tranny) to create more mechanical lever ratio at the pedal? (or heard of anyone doing it?)
just curious.
lol, i cant figure out if i want to shorten or lengthen it... but i think you all know what i mean.

The thought has crossed my mind, but I have never had a need for it. Slightly faster shifts are about all it will net you, and I don't drag race, so it doesn't bother me all that much. My clutch goes from nothing to full engaged at about 2 inches off the floor, so I'm ok.
eh,, not so much quicker shift. i just want to reduce the amount of pedal stroke. its kind of annoying to push so far in. but i still want to ensure full disengagement.
Don't get me wrong, it would work, but as I'm sure you know, you'd have a stiffer pedal. Just make sure you don't get it so short that the angle of the cable to the arm becomes a problem, then pedal effort REALLY goes up! I doubt you'd have to make it that short though..
yeah, you lose mechanical advantage for sure. thats given.
but compared to my old ACT heavy duty clutch plate which was so damn heavy to push compared to stock, id at least want to reduce the amount of pedal travel if im going ot have to push so damn hard.

yeah, again. i could live with that for the sake of reduced travel.
ppl put heavy duty clutch plates on stock engines... thats more worthless in my opinion.

Ugh, I drove a car with an ACT clutch into the shop, I almost broke the seat off the mounts pressing the clutch pedal. Worst clutch ever, that thing better hold like 9 million HP...

im not saying mess with the pedal assembly. just the clutch level at the end of the clutch cable at the tranny end.

yeah, i got used to quite frankly. i thought it was cool at first. but i was younger and more enthusiastic before... this was on my old car. its like whenever i drove someone elses car, their pedal felt like a twig. then id get used to their stock clutch, and go back to my heavy brick... i hated that. and with a stock engine, theres no point.
now im driving another crx which of course has a stock clutch, but still the same pedal stroke. i think it could be lessened.
so just thinking... i think i could still live with extra pedal stiffness if it lessened the pedal stroke, which is enormously big in my opinion.

Yeah, to shorten the clutch movement on the pedal assembly, you would have to take it all out, cut the clutch lever and reweld another piece in there to make it longer, and put it all back in. Then you get to move the hole in the firewall because it doesn't line up anymore, yay!
Speaking of which, you'll have to either make an adapter for the stock bracket or make a new clutch cable bracket on the transmission. Not really a big deal though, just part of the design.

i dont think it would be hard to cut the tranny bracket and reweld it. any beginner welder could reweld the bracket strong enough.
speaking of which, i got short arms, im thinking of shortening the gear shift rod just a hair to bring the shift **** closer to me. just a hair! i already have a "short shifter" which was modified from a stock lever anyway. acid beaver special.
anyway... all just thoughts.

When I cut and welded the linkages on my B series swap, we didn't get the linkage exactly lined up, so the shifter is a little to the right. I've been too lazy to fix it, but the moral of the story is, there's no problem with moving it around where you want it. You could both shorten and rotate it towards you, but remember, it won't take much shortening to get the desired effect. Measure twice, cut once.
