Avic-N2
this fix has nothing to do with relays, switches or any of that other nonsence that people are claiming works. this is a permenent repair and will void your warrenty on your avic. there are 2 solder joints that need to be soldered togher and is very intricate.
b.t.w. tomorrow we will verify the "repair" for nav controls on the avic-d1

thank god for you my friend
you wouldn"t believe the price people were offering to pay for the n1
because the n2 would "shut off while driving"
couldn't get ahold of any though (n1)

I know you talkign about the AVIC-N2 but I have to ask.....is there anything that can be done to make the AVIC-D1 play DVD movies through the on-board DVD drive?? That seems to be the biggest drawback of that unit.

nope u have to purchase an outboard, that is one of the ways they kept the cost down on the D1
My pioneer rep called me at the beginning of the month with this news, its great worked well.
we just found an N1 hidden in the stock room at my job the other day I dont think it will be hard for us to sell it.

its not a big secret anymore, so i guess i can spill the information we found and confirmed a few weeks ago..........
there is a silver sticker on the bottom of the Avic-N2, beneth that sticker theree are 2 solder joints. you need to solder those two togher (DO NOT LAY A BALL OF SOLDER OVER THEM, BECAUSE OF THE DELICATE NATURE OF THIS "FIX".) there are circuts that are under and next to those 2 solder points that CANNOT be in contact with anything but themselves. by connecting theese 2 points togher, the Avic-N2 now acts like an Avic-N1, by playing full video and allowing the nav screens to come up while the car is in motion.
this repair keeps the unit from searching for the speed sence pulse and gps signal for the "safety" that is built into the software of the Avic-N2. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THIS "FIX" WILL VOID THE WARRENTY AND CAN DAMAGE YOUR UNIT IF NOT DONE PROPERLY AND CAREFULLY. i strongly suggest that this "simple" fix be done by someone that has experience with small electronic repairs.
the Avic-D1 can be done even more simply by adding a grounded wire above the black ground wire in the harness, this will allow the nav screens to be used while in motion. there is a software "update" that is needed to actually play video though. the Avic-D1 is capable of reading dvd discs, but software isnt in place to "understand" the discs. this is similar to putting a mp3 disc in a normal cd player, it will read the dics, but not actually play it. i am in the process of getting this software (hopefully).
THIS INFORMATION IS GIVEN FOR OFFROAD AND DEMO PURPOSE ONLY. ANY VEHICLE SHOULD NEVER BE IN MOTION WHILE FRONT SEAT VIDEO IS BEING USED.

Thanks guys....... I look forward to hearing how you make out with the software on the Avic-D1. I really like this unit and I'm going to install it in my CRX, however the DVD playing issue annoys me (even though I will probably never use it). Thanks again for the info.

well, you can output navigation to an external source, loop it back in and watch it. You would just have to stop to enter destinations and stuff. Still better to me then voiding your warranty. especially on a flip out tv.
why would you wanna output nav? the nav works just fine, you just cant access the menus while driving. the only honest and legitimate complaints i have actually recieved on the N2 is not being able to access the nav menus from the driver's seat but having the passanger being able to input nav information. most people that are in the market for purchasing this unit aren't even interested in video while in motion cause they can output it on the rear screens for the kids.
where i live..most people buy tv's because they want to do just that...watch tv. I just offered a simple solution to the problem without voiding the warranty on your brand new tv. I mean as long as the customer is happy right?!
we wont do this "fix" on a customer's unit, i just thought i would share the information i found out and verified. it is a much safer and easier "fix" than all of the ones i have seen, especially on ebay. the scematics people are selling using relays and switches.
edit...we found an even better way to "fix" theese units.
we bought a circut tracer pen from radio shackand made small scratch marks on the solder joints (for better penetration) and simply drew a line between the solder joints. make sure you clean up any "extra" liquid that may have gotten on other parts of the board. after a few minutes you can put the sticker back on the radio's chasis and are ready to go.
