Default ITR LSD is not what it seems ???

Which LSD has 15 bolts for the ring gear? thats the current question now

Hey guys i need your help with this one. Last year buddy of mine got an ITR LSD from a member on ebay for me. It was posted as an ITR LSD and supposedly had a new bearing on it. Cut to the chase, the ring gear broke after the bearing failed so ordered a new one for an ITR and it doesnt fit.
Thought it might have been the wrong one sent but no its the correct one for an ITR. The bolt pattern is different and doesnt fit.
So is there a differece between the ring gear bolt patters for the different year LSDs or between JDM and USDM?? Bout to get a stock diff in there cuz i need to drive the car.
let me know what you guys think, thanks

Sounds like it could be an OBX. How much did it cost?

The bolt pattern should be the same for all ITR and GSR diffs. The LS one is different though. Someone let me know if I'm wrong. Is it a limited slip diff or no?

yeah its a limited slip and dont think its an OBX one. My friend who got it for me knows about hondas pretty well so it looks like an ITR one but the ITR ring gear doesnt fit for some reason. Got it for $300

I hade the same problem with mine when I tried to put the 4.7 final drive... the 4.7 final drive ring gear would not fit my diff... The ring gear that fit on my diff had teeth on the inside that rode on exposed gears on the outside of the LSD housing...

let me know if you have the same thing, as far as having small exposed gears on the outside of your diff

it would look exactly like a oem diff, minus the exposed torsen gears (I think thats what they were)..

From what it sounds like, the diff is definitely not a ITR/CTR diff. Mostly likely an oem lsd from a JDM B16 tranny. Same ring gear but different bolt pattern.

The pics will be up this weekend.
I was talking to my buddy today and he said there are 15 bolts for the ring gear and the stock GSR has 10 holes. So does anyone know of an LSD with 15 holes for the ring gear bolts?

actually JDM B16As Y21/S21 use 14 bolt and SOHC S20 LSD trannies use 12 bolt LSDs

i found that out on both trannies the hard way, first tranny diff cracked so I got an a GSR diff and of course it didn't work . For the sohc i got 4.9 fd which of course did not bolt up, same issue 12 bolt vs 10bolt FD.

If you are sure that the LSD is OEM Honda, it is most likely an EG6 LSD. Does it look like this?

That fits the bill for a 15pt lsd. Hopefully that info helps the guy along.

Hey!

revive just because I have ran into issues now and this is the top thread on Google the 15 bolt b series lsd is from a cable y1 transmission they are short geared transmissions that run the small spline 88-91 shafts. The other unique thing is they are the only short ratio transmission with a 4.266 final drive but still manage to achieve similar gearing to hydro b16 transmissions
