Spark Racing Header
Any itr guys using this? Seems like a very good header for the amount of money. Dyno charts say a 15 hp increase over hytech in the midrange and 1hp increase on top http://www.sparkracing.com/pro...f0ead
plus its only 600 and ss.

There's no link to any dyno chart there, just a link to the product. Seems doubtful to me though that 15hp could be found over the Hytech with no other modifications. Maybe different types of dynos used to test each header?

Took the ITR to Hookups to let Chris test the Sparks Racing stainless header against the Hytech header that's on the car. The Sparks header is a tight fit with A/C-some FAL fans would be nice. Peak power with the two headers was comparable, within 1 hp. In the mid range the Sparks header beat the Hytech by a good 14 hp. RPM pick up was problematic, so no torque graph, but the Sparks made about 10 more ft-lbs. of torque at 6,400. Graph:

It's a copy of an earlier generation SMS header. The current design header from SMS looks different.
Since that time, too, SMS has branched out quite a bit and offers different kinds of solutions for the same motor, although you will probably not catch him with every solution in stock every time you call.
There was even a coated mild steel version of the B18 header available from SMS for something like $700. I don't know if he still offers that.
http://www.sms-products.com/ will show the current header designs.
I don't know how mad you can get at Sparks Racing for making a proved design available for a good price, but if you object to that kind of thing you might be able to find the original designer's pieces available for not much more.

The quality of sms is known, but seems like nobody knows the quality of spark racing. May be better to stick with the real thing?

that's bullshit. vtec comes in earlier on the spark (red) dyno plot. total bullshit. thats what the 15 hp is. how are they gonna change the tune and claim that??
anyone who would do that to sell a header is not gettin my money

Yes sir. SMSP's quality, performance, and customer service are superb, and I'd personally much rather pay a small amount more and know that I'm getting a truly top-shelf product rather than purchase a less expensive knock-off of an older design.

VTEC was the same for both headers-I did all of the tuning myself on my laptop. Chris at Hookups just made the runs, and his helper did the header swap. There is no doubt that on my particular motor, with my particular head, intake, and cams, that the Sparks SMSP copy had a much stronger mid-range. The Hytech was better on top. The results may be different on a different engine package.
I probably would not run the Sparks header due to the fitment problems with the A/C fan. It is what it is. For people on a budget it's not a bad deal. I can't say if the header will work long term as far as durability. If I was to want to run a header like this, I would buy the original from Dave.
