Default civic good price?

i came across a civic 4dr. it has a 1991 ls teggy engine in it. the owner has the new head gaskets that have to be put in. he sais that it needs new axles but i think its the tranny. the car starts up fine no od noises and he puts it in gear put the car doesnt go anywhere like it it didnt take the gears, thats why he says its the axles but like i said i think its the tranny. other than that the car is fine. hes asking for $700 but i know i could get it for like $600. is it a good price, what do u guys think?

Tell him you only have $650 and you need some cash to register the beast.

It seems like a reasonable price, just get that tranny worked on and it will be a nice little sleeper

Trany, the axles would make a nasty grinding and clicking noise if they noise were the issue. The transmission seems as if it is unable to engage the motor, similar to a clutch replacement issue. It would be wise to pull the motor and take out the transmission, look over the clutch and syncros to make sure they are in reasonable shape.

But a good condition EF 4DR for $600-$700?? Still a good buy even if you have to push it away.

If you don't get that 4DR let me know , I might just swoop in and purchase it!

Good luck with finding a wagon, there aren't that many around anymore in decent shape.

it could be a snapped cv joint and still not make any noises. It happened to me once. One of my friends was giving my crx a little too much hell and snapped the axle. It would go into gear but not go anywhere, just like your talking about. Also, you may want to see what kind of mounts were used for the swap. If it is just welded and the engine sits at an angle, it puts stress on the axles, so you'll be snapping them all the time.
