Default obx lsd install problems...

so i took the stock diff out of my transmission and took the gears and bearings off the stock diff.
when i placed the final drive on the obx lsd, it fits fine, but the body of the new diff is so large, i have trouble tightening the bolts to the gear...
i had to use an open ended wrench to turn the bolts since they pretty much touch the body of the diff...
anyone else have to deal with this?

Maybe this question belongs somewhere else, not forced induction?

nobody cares. The obx lsd has been discussed many times in the fi forum before because mostly a lot of fi guys are using it.

dremel the sides down a hair? But I'm not sure how much that affects the strength of the bolt.

try using a crows foot wrench on your torque wrench. That should do the trick.

Yeah alot of ebay sellers buy defective blem parts. Why do you think some parts are under cost. Also they make more money when they can et them practically for free.

When I bolted down my obx never had a problem. Check the threads. I used a torque wrench to bolt it down. Make sure they are hand tight first then follow through. I also applied a little loctite before torque them down.

what ring gears is that? and which diff is that? i used an impact socket on mine, so i know mine had alot more clearance then that. I am running the LS diff, in a GSR while using a B16 4.400 Ring Gear. Whats it looks like you could do is, use a socket (might need to hit it with a grinder) while using and extension. and remember these are left handed threads.

its a d series lsd for an 96-00 ex tranny...
socket won't even go over the bolt now since its so close to the diff...

maybe there is an open ended wrench type torque wrench that could help me here

do what i said and use the crows foot. Its like a little stubby 1 inch open ended wrench that you can put on a ratchet like a socket. We sell them where i work at sears.

the tranny guru said this on d-series.org

The OBX is about 1.5 mm larger in diameter than the Quaife.

The only option I see, slightly grinding the edge of each bolt (flange part) to reduce the diameter, but the socket will still hang up on the diff case.</TD></TR></TABLE>
