how to register jdm type r?
my friend is in the process of buying a jdm type r right now and we were wondering if any of you know how to register these beasts and how is insurance, outragous or not to bad for owning a type r.
I hear its next to impossible, but it can be done with enough $$. Maybe give MotoRex a call, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck
There gov. regulated places that are authorized to make the changes to the car to make it road legal in the US but if for some reason they can't your just out of the money because once they finish the EPA and DOT will inspect the car normally takes about month for modifcations and inspections to be completed. The shops that make the changes can make pleas for you in case something isn't possible to push it through inspections. You can do the modifcations yourself but if a problem comes up your pleas with the EPA and DOT won't hold up like if it came from the gov. regulated shops.
I am going through the same thing with a friend on another JDM vehicle. The process to do it legally is a hell of a lot harder than you can imagine, EPA zone or not.
Here is the definitive information from the government. Read all of this, and you will come to the realization that your chance of pulling this off in a legal way is slim to none.

you can just a USDM shell (after a good accident), take the vin's swap it in...and you got yourself a legal car, that has been fixed and modified...
The only person that do it legally is a legit and licensed importer. He is the only one that can obtian the papers to even get the ball rolling (customs). From there, dealing with the EPA is a major headache, then you gotta insure it. Two of my friends got them in town here. They are sooooo smoooooooth. Truly beautiful cars in person.
