Default Is it possible to lower a bike?

Hey everyone, I am really new to the bike scene but want to start getting to know stuff about them. I went to my local honda dealers to check out the CBR's they got. I asked the salesmen if it is possible to lower a bike 1-2 inches. He said that its not possible and people who want lower bikes go with the F4i because the seat is lower. I looked up the stats and the F4i seat height is 31.4 inches where as the RR is 32.5. Just one inch. So is the salesmen correct? Is there no aftermarket parts for a bike to be lowered?

I am not a really tall person that is why I am asking.

In short, yes. Done improperly, you'll have a fidgety bike. Done properly, you'll have less clearance.

Yes it can be done to lower a bike, but everyone will usually say it will mess up the handling. As long as you can put one foot down I say you'll be ok. There's a couple guys on this forum that aren't as tall, but can handle a pretty high seat level bike. Hope that helps.

If you really wanted too and had to have a bike that was too big for you I am sure the subframe could be mod'd. Seats arent exactly luxury items anymore so you can sculpt them. As for suspension drop the front and rear equally and you might get it to handle, but it would be dragging the underneath everywhere.

Mind you, here's a really wild suggestion why dont you buy a bike with a lower seat height?

I usually drop the forks in the triple clamps... but only to make the bike turn faster

Hell, I'm 5-6ish and raised the back of my 600rr about an inch. It was worth the tiptoeing on one foot at lights.

I'm 5'8" with stubby as legs, and I can flatfoot with both feet all the 05 Yamaha and Honda sportbikes.

Just go sit on a bike, thats what I did. Its the only way you'll know.

So the bike can be adjusted a little? I asked a friend who has a suzuki about adjusting the seat height and he said that it can't be done. But on the other hand he doesn't know that much about bikes.

Stock, most bikes don't have a height adjustment for the rear. The front ca be lowered by raising the forks in the triples. This can all be done without additional components.

5'6''? Dont even think about lowering it. You can do the ol' *** slide to one side when you come to a stop.

Ya I agree. I do the support-with-one-leg-at-stoplights maneuvers on my R6 all the time and I'm only 5'3". But I do suggest that if you can, shave the seat down a 'lil 'cause that's wut I did. It also helps if the bike you buy has a cushiony seat to begin with (so that u can shave it ), which is why I opted for the R6 over the thin-seat F4i.

You prob don't want to shave a Honda seat, it's a plank to begin with. I'm on 5'5 (asian genes), I had the rear of my RC raised 5mm, plus use a 180 rear tire which raises it a little more. I can't flat foot it, but it's really not a big deal. I just pull the "one cheek sneak". Diff companies sell dogbone kits that will lower the bike, it's really not worth it IMO.

you can lower the rear with a lowering link, but to make it even you need to slide the forks up through teh triple clamp too. the bike will give you MAD headshake

cliff notes: don't lower a bike, it will only be useufl for posing

I am aware of that, Ducati and Aprilia. But what bikes come stock with a Penske?

Suzuki and Honda use Showa, not sure about Kawi's.
