I bet there is post something like this, but I'm thinking of purchasing either s2k or 350z. whos' faster????? can't decide.... so my decision depends on faster stock car.

they are pretty much to completely different class of cars. the 350 it more of a GT car. while the S2 is the truest of roadsters. stock for stock in the 1/4 mile which i assume is what your concerded with i think will be a drivers race. new s2 run 13.9 and i think the AE 350z run somewhere in that neighborhood. From my personal experience i have take down a few 350s, tho i am moded. Either car has potential to be quite quick. but neither are FAST IMO.
Faster in depriciation? 1/4 mile? Road course? Auto-x?
Supposedly the S2000 beats the 350Z by .2 s in the 1/4 mile.
Supposedly Steve Millen drove the 2 on a road course back to back and got a better time in the S2000.
You will see way more 350z's on the road than S2000s if that means anything to you.

Car and driver did do a test.
I think it was
Mach 1
S2K
350Z
The 350Z got the fastest lap time and second fastest 1/4 mile time(behind the Mach 1). The S2k was 3rd in the 1/4 mile and 2nd in the circuit. I think the 350 is generally faster Straight line. Way more torque and quite a bit more power.

go here, 1/4 mile times for many stock cars

Heres my experience
350z
intake
kinetix plenum
test pipes
y pipe
grounding kit(not a real mod)
flexs
nismo lmgt4s
cf hood and trunk
no spare
s2k
intake duct
apexi single exit
flexs
hardtop with softtop underneath
spare
hes pretty fat
volk ce-28n
From a roll
35 mph the zs torque pulls ahead by a car length in 2nd
from 45 the s2k is in the powerband and is able to stay side by side...the z's 3rd gear is stronger and pulls on the highway, but as soon as the s2k hits 4th it catches right up. its basically a matter of gearing..
The s2k kid is to ***** to go from a dig because his "diff" which i dont have a s2k but apparently is a problem. Both kids sucked at driving on the 1/4 mile and the z ran a 14.6 @76 (3rd slammed into 2nd--almost totalled) and the s2k first run a 18.6 (forgot to go) and a 14.8 @97 (bogged the launch like crazy.

first off if it was an ap1..... 35mph roll in first gear would be in the power band ... cause first gear will top you out arond 42mph....... 45mph roll in second gear would not be in the power band area.. second gear tops out at like 65mph...
if it was an ap2.... first gear tops out at like 37mph and second gear tops out at around 56mph.....
these numbers are rather acurate unless your final drive gear has been changed...

some mags say s2000
some say 350z
i have never been beaten by a 350z from a stop or from a roll either.
they both have a lot of potential in capable hands
what are you looking to do with the car?
are you shopping or just curious?
the way i look at the magazine results is to take an average of sorts, since there are so many variations in testing conditions.
what seems to be about average is s2000s running 13.9 quarters and 350z running 14.1
as someone mentioned earlier, its really all in the hand of the driver.
in my opinion, people that own torquey cars are generally satisfied with thier straight line abiltes and the never really fine tune them
hit gas and go mentality
however it takes finesse to get the s to produce the same results.
all of the practice makes for better abilities
just my opinion, as to why the 350z allways gets walked when i race them

If you want a japanese mustang, get the 350Z...if you want a great drivers car that takes a little getting used to and has a cramped interior but makes up for it in driving pleasure, get the S2000. Plain and simple.

Good choice...my buddy picked up an 04 350z roadster and it's a porker compared to my S. He was pissed when he found out our car was faster and a hell of a lot cheaper.
Both cars have a rich heritage, but I believe more passion went into the design of the S. Both are capable sports cars, so I think it comes down to your personal preference. Drive both and see what you think. It seems silly to base your decision on 1/4 mile time, when both are very close.
I see WAY to many Z's on the road. Once you own an S you will understand the close community that S2000 owners have. I've never had one pass me that didn't wave or flash his lights at me.
I also think the S is more of a true driver's car. Drive both and you will know what I mean, the engineers don't try to shield you from the car. Everything is very basic and mechanical. You control the car, without the aid of sensors and computers.

welcome to the family... now you'll soon find out that those close tight S2000 owners are a bunch of douche bags. What i'm trying to say is... IMO most owners are a bunch of scaled up rice boys with money. very few track their cars. Most only know and care about JDM Bling. PLEASE don't be one of those owners.

^^^ So anyone that doesnt track their S2000 is a riceboy? I think your opinion is kind of closed minded, someone that drives the car to work everyday is no less legitimate of an owner than someone that races theirs at a track every weekend...if the car was meant to be a track car 100%, the car would be quite a bit different.

i am going to have to agree. we are not all that way but more people will spend thier money for jdm crap before they will buy other more necessary parts.
