auto to manual conversion.. is it worth it?? (searched)
ok i read like 43054 posts about this. im looking into buying a 94 prelude SI with leather interior (<the selling point)... im getting it pretty much for like 1300. its auto. I really hate automatic cars though soo i would HAVE to swap it to stick. while i was looking it up it seems like its gonna be an extrremely hard conversion thats gonna cost me like $1000 in parts.
can somebody give me a breakdown on each parts price and were i could find it.
this is what i found-
i found this from "wingwly"
pedals
the bracket that bolts to the tranny to hold the cables in place
starter will not line up so get a new one
half shaft <<is that expensive?
new CV joints
tranny mount
Vehicle speed sensor
tranny
ecu
shift box
cables
master cylider
clutch resevior
hard line from sc to Clutch Damper
slave cylinder
can i do this swap cheap or no.

I did a conversion on my 99 prelude with si tranny? Works great and feels better. Job is not as difficult but the wiring is kinda hard. I had to get my friend to give me a hand. I only spent about 600 to do it...250 for the si tranny with the linkage and shifter. I got the slave cylinder and master cylinder for about 40 or 50 and the lines were about 5 or 10 dollars. You can run the auto ecu which i still am but not good because your car will surge once in awhile, mine only surges in cold weather..ahha..
other stuff...
Cv axles on driver and possibly passenger
starter (5spd)
5sp gauge cluster not necassary if you usining a tach
couple of electrical stuff...tapes,wires,etc.

well worth it! (only if you have money to do it) Find a shop that does good work, remember it's a one time thing and you can't screw up, might as well spend for it. it will cost anywhere from $2000-$4000 depending on where you get your parts and which tranny you swap with. the auto ecu can be modified to a 5spd. you don't need new cv joints, you can use the stock ones. the wiring is not that hard either. the only things you need to wire are: clutch switch, reverse lights, and cruise control (optional).

depends where you go the junk yard here charged me 400 for all the mchanical and hydrolic parts(not includeing the tranny or ecu or clutch)cuz i had to get me a tranny with a lsd
so if i was to goto the junk yard and buy everything and then get a normal tranny, how much do u think the entire conversion will cost..
also how many hours of work does it take?

I bought an entire totaled car from the junkyard for 600 bucks. Did the swap myself in about a month only working on it for a couple hours a day after school. I love it now that im done. Its the best mod ive done.

sadly to say, all the parts for $400 is not possible. the amount of time involved depends on how well you know your car and how well your mechanic skills are.
i can do the half shaft for $50 plus shipping.

I did mine during the winter when the car was in the garage any way. I was very lucky to find the totaled si at a junkyard in a truck type hillbilly town with a completely in tact egine compartment. Only problem was a bent frame. Even had leather interior which is now in my car- 600$ Twas great.
Seems like it might be a lot easier to find a manual car and order new leather seat upholstrey. Too me, spending $1000 on a car you have just purchused just to make it mechanicly identical to a car you could have had initialy is just stupid.
well i thought it sounded like a good deal because im getting a 94 prelude SI with perfect leather interior and a straight body (minus the small amounts of surface rust on the 1/4s) with 151,000 for about a 1000. putting $700 or $800 into it seems worth it in the end. ill have a sweet 5spd leather prelude for under $2000.
anyone know were i can get directions on doing this conversion?
also i wanna do a h22 swap while im at it... anyone have one for sale at a reasonable price?

thanks alot for those instructions, they should help alot. im still debating on buying all the parts and then just putting out the money to get a shop to do it for me depending on what they will charge since i dont have a real good lift or anything like that.
and yeah i am gonna get the swap done on it, but im not gonna start it until i sell my h23 and find a h22.

Do the swap. My car is a 94 s and i just did an f22gay to jdm h22 and an auto to manual swap (alot easier when the engine is out to run to clutch hard line). I just started it up for the first time earlier today and it sounds pretty good, but i have a couple gremlins now like a cel, 1200 rpm bog(already did all the recommend maintainence for mileage) and my battery isnt charging but hopefully this week me and my neighbor will figure them all out. It will be worth it, there was many times when something wont fit right and youll get alot of little snags along the way but thats to be expected and done let stuff like that get you down. If i can do this swap im my driveway then Anyone Can. Dont give up crxsi541. Your will probly be easier than mine if you get an h22 cuz i think your car is already pre wired for Vtec and if you have abs then its a little cluttered in the engine bay because of the abs distribution block bolted to the firewall. If you have any Q's let me know crxsi541. Do like dan said and save its soul
H23 for sale with auto tranny, COMPLETE SWAP taking best offer lol. 151xxx comes with new headgasket, studs, waterpump, timing belt, and belt tensioner.
