► Cheap Weight Reduction...
Well just to preface this car was fairly gone to begin with. But a buddy (DrDisco69) and I decided that we would like to reduce some weight out of the car so away we started.
Tools Needed
- Sockets 8,10,12,14,17
- Ratchets (X2)
- Drill
- Screwdrivers
- Hammers (Dead blow, Mini Sledge)
- Pry Bars (X3)
- Sawzall (X2)
- Ether
- Multi-meter
- Jump Cables
Here is the start of the car as you can see it was pretty well gone. Still runs!! but has NO BRAKE pedal or e-brake. Oh by the way the tech tip offered here is that 96 spark plug wires will work if a substitute is needed.
It was an 89 CRX

Next since weight is a HUGE problem in our 2200lbs cars (some of the lightest cars out there) We decided that a targa top is need to let our hair blow, and just to show the Del Sol's that we CRX have a much superior car. Also the doors were way to heavy so those were taken off. With the door off we dub it the CRXSTER (play off the Jeepster)

Next remove targa top

So you don't like the targa top look then proceed to the front A pillars. As you can see this shows our superior sound system. Also to honor the Honda motorcycle heritage we need this open air, bugs in your teeth feel.

For that open air and open wheel there is no other way to roll

To further reduce the weight the rear had to be completely take off

As you can see the rear is extremely light

And then here is the lighting speed of the CRXSTER

Also remember when driving the CRXSTER safety is of the utmost importance so please wear safety glasses. Also you have good ingress and egress with the detachable JDM HF steering wheel

And then the end of our fun for this day. However with a fresh battery the CRXSTER will ride again.

Everyone enjoy and stay tuned for more CRXSTER fun.

SuperStreet did that a couple of years back to a Sentra. With the same sarcasim. The shaved 2 seconds off their time though. lol
where are you going to mount the wing now?
where are you going to mount the wing now?
Yeah.
Bolt a cage and a harness on that thing and I'm down for driving it to work.
How did it handle and feel with all of that weight gone?

I cannot empasize this enough. This car is rather... difficult ...to drive because of this. Everything takes lots of planning and hoping.
We haven't taken it on a main road, mostly because it runs like ****, I think the alternator is dead. I'll try to find a battery and go back for some more next weekend. It might have a blown head gasket as well, hard to tell. Also we don't really care. It better handle VERY well, as slowing down for turns is not really an option.

i bet that thing's really sloppy, it lost like all the chassis rigidity it once had (i'm sure the rocker panels under those side skirts you left on are rotted). but, i would do the same.
throw a master cylinder in there, even if it's an old one. it'd be better than nothing.
anyone else notice that's not an hf steering wheel? heh, just being an ***. i actually own a vw beetle that looks just like that crx, it also doesn't have brakes. i recently stole the engine off of it to put it in my bus.

you can further reduce weight by taking off the front under-bumper beam.

Well maybe at the end but for now it does provide some protection but I like the way you think.

Rocker panels? are those needed? I hope not cause they are completely GONE. Yeah not HF and not JDM that is the fun of the whole thing. Even if the E-brake just worked that is all we'd need. Just something to stop us instead of the woods.
Glad we could bring some humor to everyone, yes it was sad to cut it up, as you can see it was on it way out anyways. We will get some video next time, my camera was screwing up. Maybe even some incar shots.
