did i do the right thing?????? (long story)
well to start off, i know i wasnt doing the absolute right thing riding hard in the canyons, but i dont want anyone to flame cause we ALL have done it. but im sure there will be some of you who swear they dont and just save 100% for the track. so call me a squid or whatever i dont care. ANYWAY. i was riding up and down the canyone all day today breaking in my new pilot powers. and i was real pleased with the results (completely to the edge front and rear), well i noticed a guy on like a 92 katana 600 always going opposite of me. well i was gassing up and getting ready to go home when he pulled in. we chatted and he asked if i wanted to go ride the canyon 1 more time. so i said ok
so we go up and back down the mountain good, i stayed way ahead and waited at the stop signs for him. well when we get to the end, we go back cause i wanted to go home. so i rode hard letting him always start in front of me from the stop signs. but i would pass him through the corners. well we stopped one more time at the top and was on our way back down and there were 2 hard sweeping turns with a small straightaway inbetween them. we were doing about 90-100 through the corner ( i let him stay ahead) and when we went through the second corner he high sided. (it was ironic cause i told him to ride within his means so he didnt get hurt) so all i see is him and his bike going over and over and over on their sides.
well i have to brake VERY HARD to not go through his oil, gas, and anti-freeze in the turn. well he stands up and walks over to the guard rail and sits on it. there were 2 trucks coming up the mountain and they stopped. (now this is where i wonder if i did the right thing) i made sure he was ok and they were calling for help, and then i left cause i didnt want to get in trouble. try not to flame if you do i dont care, but someone got hurt today and i realize that i have to cut it out through the canyon.

I dont think anyone would of gotten in trouble, a lot of times when cops see you've wrecked they feel sorry for you and let you go.
I dont see why you would get in trouble, they cant prove you were doing anything.
There probably wasnt much you could do to help him either though.

If there were people who stopped and the authorities were on their way,you can justify leaving to stay out of any trouble. If it had of been a friend of yours and you left I would have a different opinion..Don't fret over it.
I dunno why you left, you should not have gotten in trouble and it's not like you made the guy highside. At least you made sure he was ok before you left though. It would have been messed up if you would have just flat out left him there. If it was me, I prob would have stayed.
It's his fault for riding hard, you didn't make him do anything. people have to take responsibility for their own actions. You stopped to see if he was okay...what were you supposed to do other than that?

it's good you feel bad about leaving him, but you mutually decided to ride as adults... he is responsible for his actions. very different if it was an organized ride or one of your friends. Usually bikes start pulling over out of compassion after a crash, so you would have just blended in after a time. but if someone saw you "racing"and fingered you, you could have been in a world of hurt. If you would have stayed and waited with him for a time, you would have reserved your halo though

yea i didnt know him and i TOLD him to ride within his/ his bikes means. (i have a 600rr) i jsut wanted to make sure he wasnt dead or seriously injured (although he might have been but was suffering from shock) terrible, terrible day today. ruined my confidence for the week
It's his own fault for riding faster than he was prepared to deal with. Don't wory about it too much - he didn't die; he's just a bit scuffed up.
to you for being considerate to stop and make sure he was ok before leaving.
Your second signature quote is pretty gross, tho...

I don't know that you could have gotten a ticket however the cops could have taken your info down and kept it on a profiling list for persons speeding through that area on a motorcycle. Next thing you know it every time someone with a black bike was reported as speeding down the canyon and they pay you a visit.......
It is all too common for something like this to happen with all the complaints about sportbikes and speeding lately. I thought I heard from someone that they were taking pictures of riders/bikes that way they can identify people who run from the cops.
Personally if it was a friend of mine, I would have stayed and waited for the ambulance or whatever. Since you just met him, you really didnt have any obligation to him but it would have been a nice gesture to wait regardless.
Plus you never know what the guy said to the cops. Hell he could have said a guy on a 600rr ran me off the road, that way he can get his insurance to pay for his stuff.
I had a situation occur and I almost got screwed when I was nice to a fellow rider. I was at the local meeting spot on saturday a few yrs back. While pulling up to the stop sign that is located where the parking lot meets the main road the bikes were lined up 2 lines. About 8 bikes in front of me rolled through the stop sign and made the right hand turn onto the main road. I stopped to yield to oncoming traffic and the moron behind me zx6e rearended me and pushed me in front of a car that was going 55 mph. luckily the car swerved and avoided me otherwise I may not be around to tell this story.....
I felt bad for the guy, his bike had a huge hole in the left side fairing because it hit my right rear passenger peg. He bent my footpeg, ripped my seat and put a huge scrape on my tail section fairing. I was furious as I only had my 929 for two weeks, but it was red, I hate red and I was planning on having my bike painted so I said it was no biggie and I had a sargeant seat ordered to replace the torn one.
Well he was freaking out cause he had a bunch of damage to his fairings and I said we can do one of two things, call the cops and you will probably get a ticket for rearending me and not obeying a traffic device (stop sign) or we can chalk it up as an accident and leave it at that. I wasnt even going to make him pay for my ****. (At the time I didnt know the footpeg bracket was bent as bad as it was....
He didnt want to call the cops so we pulled off. I later saw him 2 miles down the street at another gas station. He had called the cops and he was trying to claim a hit and run. I had a dozen or so witnesses so I provided my info to the cops.
If i didnt have any witnesses I could have been charged with hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident and whatever other crap they wanted to pin on me.
This was all because I was trying to be cool in a bad situation.....
I should have made that jacka$$ pay for my new paintjob, my seat and a new oem footpeg.
Ah well, ya live and ya learn.
