Tranny Probs.
My damn tranny needs new bearings and a clutch. Its the original set from 122k miles back when the car was new. The shop is asking 700-900 because they think it might need a rebuild. Is that a good price range?

No. I bought a 90 civic sedan tranny from the junkyard for $75. The only difference between it and an Si tranny is the diff. bearing size and the final drive ratio (4.058 instead of 4.25).
The shop is trying to screw you.

you should easily be able to pick up a tranny for 2-250 bones........it is alot easier, and cheaper to swap trannies than it it is to rebuild them, if they are manuals, hell either way, as long as you know what you are buying.........
I can get a brand new friction plate, pressure plate, and release bearing, and a whole new (used but in good condition tranny) here for under $600. Thats in canadian $$$ The three pieces for the clutch, straight from honda cost just over $300canadian, so it will be cheaper over there, they are screwing you huge.
good LORD! you STILL have your orginal clutch and throw out bearing on a car with 122k? damn u sure got ur moneys worth. and why are you people suggesting he get rid of his tranny? all he needs is a new clutch and TOB (something you should replace verytime you crack that case anyway) go get an oem clutch, pp, and throw out bearing from honduh and u'll be set. i can't imagine needing a new tranny after only 122k. as long as it goes into gear find and stays in gear with no grinds its a good trans.
