I have a 98 Lude SH with 115,000 miles on it. I had the clutch replaced about 8 thousand miles ago and still feels strong. For awile now its been harder to shift into 2nd gear. Today while reving into to around 6200 rpms in 1st and throwing it into second it just grinded and didnt go into gear. I went to do it again to see if maybe I just screwed up shifting and it did it again. I was thinking maybe syncros. What to you huys think ? How much is a syncros job ? How much is a whole new tranny ?
Don't buy a new tranny yet.
Have you checked your tranny fluid?? How does your clutch pedal feel?? Does it feel normal??
Tranny fluid would be the first thing I would check.

check to see if your clucth is dragging. while its idling push the clutch down and wait three seconds and put it into reverse. if it grinds then ur clucth isnt disengaging all the way. thats probably not the cause because it shifts good in all the other gears i'm guessing right? but it is a possibility. when you slam it into gear at that high of rpms its obviously hard on the syncros so i'm guessing that your blocker ring is bonded to the speed gear which would cause a symptop exactly like you described. definately dont shift into 2nd gear because you'll round off the dog teeth on ur speed gear and those are pretty expensive. if i were you i'd just get a tranny from a junk yard. and manuals trannys are very easy to swap if u know what ur doing. if you know how to rebuild trannys then i'd go to the junk yard and ask if you can buy a core for 25 bucks and then swap your broken parts with the parts from the core.
yea well if you cant rebuild it urself then you'd be much better off just swapping it with a different tranny from a junk yard. i work at a tranny shop and we would charge about $1000 to fix it. if you do swap it yourself i suggest that after you install it fill it with fluid drive it down the road and back and change the fluid because there might be water or who knows what in it from sitting at the junk yard.
