Default cam install, what else should i pick up to do it right...

im actually installing a camshaft, valve springs, and retainer into my sohc d16z6 and i just wanted to know if i should pick up anything from honda like some kind of lube or so. im going to get a new valve cover gasket since mine now leaks and a friend suggested a thinner headgasket(i think a y8 is thinner, can some confirm?) and arp studs while the motor is apart. any other useful info would be great. thanks

Get engine assembly lube and lube up all the lobes on the camshaft and the valve portion that will be close to the camshaft rather then the block.

If you want to get a bit higher compression getting a thinner head gasket might raise you by .1 - .3 depending on how thin. APR head studs are a good choice also

If your doin all that crap, go and get a head gasket kit. It'll have all the gaskets and seals from the head gasket up...you'll need 98% of them, trust me.

First off, you should know that there is a simple answer to the question many people seem confused about.

All z6 head gaskets are 3 layer. The y8 engine was originally manufactured with a 2 layer head gasket, but in later years switched back to the standard 3 layer. So many people argue over which gasket creates higher compression. You will find, though, that most replacement y8 and z6 head gaskets are identical and made in 3 layers.

Some people just blindly spout out that the y8 gasket is better because some of them are only 2 layers thick.

Make sure you have all of the tools needed.
Torque wrenches
Valve tool
Helms manual

Sometimes a friend that knows what they are doing helps.
