Lowering Springs on Stock shocks
I have the Neuspeed Sports drop that drops 1.75 front and 1.5 rear that i'm going to put on my 5th Gen prelude.. Could I use the stock shocks with those springs? Is it safe? or will I bust and kill the shocks? i need help thanks!
I had the same set up as you... yeah its ok I guess for like 4-6 months and then my stock shock went out and so I just bought a whole new set up (springs/shocks)
i also have that exact setup on a 4gen for about 4 months and it's actually a better ride than i expected. however, i wouldn't rely on it b/c stock shocks go out easy. mine aren't gone yet and i have 126,000 miles on them.
how many miles are on yours? if you're stockers are relatively new you could go without them for awhile but ultimately, you will need shocks. i would take everyone else's advice on this board and buy the shocks now if you have the money.

I have Neuspeed sport springs on my 5th gen and haven't had any problems since I put them on 5 months ago. If you can afford to get new shocks as well go for it though. It's up to you.
Hey 5200BB6 so the sprint springs ride nice, like shock? I was plannin on doing that too but someone told me they are not all that! Found a great deal on ebay for $150 Brand new sprint springs with brand new camber kit for the front! Should I buy it? It will be $170 shipped!

hmm, i ordered mine from GC direct so i could get whatever spring rates i wanted for no extra charge...ended up costing around $365 shipped or something like that.
as far as who has the best price on the OTS GC's, i have no idea.

Ran neuspeed race springs 2.25 all around in my 5th gen for 2 years on stock shocks without any problem, and the ride was smooth as well. When I changed out to tein ss, they were stil in excellent shape. By the way it is a daily driver, about 30 miles roundtrip to work and then wherever else I go.
Hey Guys Post some pics of your cars and details about whats installed. I am goin crazy deciding what springs and camber kit to go with. And whether or not to save up for some shocks or not. I have an SH so its a lil harder to find a setup for my car. Suggestions and Opinions are also greatly appreciated!
since SH's are already kinda lowered.. just get like a sports drop of 1.3 to 1.75 drop.. Tein, Neuspeed, H&R's are good springs.. camber kits.. dont really matter what brand they are, they're all the same.. get an obx one, thats cheapest you can get that works.. and yeah some people has had the problem of using stock shocks that went out on them because they installed lowered springs and some didnt have a problem.. If you have money, i suggest you buy new shocks..
I've had my Neuspeed Race springs (2.5" drop front/ 2.0" rear) for well over 1.5 years on my base with STOCK shocks and no problem whatsoever.
Then I convinced my brother with a '97 SH to get the same springs, but he had a little more money and bought a pair of Tokico blue shocks and the springs. He loves em and so do I. Obviously his car rides better and smoother then mine.
If you can, go ahead and get some decent shocks to go along with your setup. If the money isn't there, I say just go ahead and throw them on.

I have a sh model prelude also. What is the deal with all these companies saying excluding sh model when it come to shocks. You said your brother has a pair and it rides fine? I am just curious man because I want to lower my sh but I don't the shocks if they won't work. I'm Sean from Texas.
Alrighty, heres the deal with lowering an SH.
Main difference between SH and base model shocks is that the perch where the spring rests is one inch higher on the SH than the base. This is why everyone says if you are going to lower and SH, do shocks/springs at the same time. Otherwise, you're drop will be whatever the advertised drop is, PLUS an extra inch. This info was extracted by doing a search, lots of threads about it, but essentially, thats what the big fuss about lowering an SH is.
Now as far as finding a spring designed specifically for the SH, the only set i know of is the Eibach Pro-kit. I beleive 98typesh said hes been using those for a couple of years on stock shocks and everything is fine.
Hope this helps everyone out.
