Default P1399

Hello fellas.

Yesterday while driving my R I shifted into 4th at approx. 8700 RPM or so. The shift felt fine but the engine didn't like it. The engine screamed for a brief minute and then the car stalled. The next morning when I started her up the engine light was on. My buddy found various misfire errors and resetted them. One code p1399 keeps comin up. The code matches to "Wait To Start Lamp Circuit" The engine is stalling when I'm sitting at a light or stop sign and it seems not to be pullin as well. I also hear a ticking sound when I drive. All bad signs I'm assuming.

Did I do the classic "money shift"?

I'll bet you bent some valves.

mechanic thinks it may just need a valve adjustment based on what I told him. He's popping the valve cover tomorrow.

so you're saying that at the top of third gear (approx 8700 rpm) you shifted to fourth gear and now you're having these problems? i wouldn't see how that is the classic money shift, but i suggest you stop driving the car until you figure it out.

well it is the "money shift" if I caused valve damage. I'm driving to and from work whci isn't far but necessary. I know that bending valves is rare especially since R's have rev limiters and the valves are titanium if I'm not mistaken. From what I've read you have to do something really evil to bend them. I will update Friday after mechanic has looked at it.

You probably hit second not fourth. That is about the only way it would happen.

it felt like 4th when I shifted but coulda been. I have no compression in Cylinder one. When we addded oil we got the pressure up a bit. This led us to believe a valve is fried. Compression was also a bit lower than the other two in number 3. In the two cylinders with low or no compression have spark plugs that are very black. The engine is going to have to be rebuilt. AWESOME. 2000 bucks good bye.

150 ish? ? ?where is the top of the 3rd for an R somewhere around there.

I may buy a B18 B and turbo it. Or if I'm rebuilding I may as well bore it out to a 2.0 with a stroker kit.
