Quaife steering rack pinion issue?
just wondering from everyone else who has installed their quaife steering rack, specifically onto an EF, if you noticed the supplied pinion to be SHORTER than the stock pinion? the gear length does not match up, and ends about halfway of the rack, engaging only half the area of the threads.
anyone else encounter this?
hopefully ill have a picture soon.

My car is an STD, but the rack I installed the parts into came from the wrecker and I honestly don't know what trim level it came from.
I encountered this same issue when I( installed into my 91 CRX SI rack...I just placed the bearing to match the height on the old pinion...no issues so far. <back the bearing off>

Always a possibility of the pinion walking up inside the bearing. To be sure it'll stay put, you need to put some sort of spacer in there.

the verdict, from talking to quaife, seems to be that quaife designed their rack around the HF/DX rack and pinion and resulted in the illustrated difference shown above.
anyone still intending to reuse their Si rack housing should be cautious of this.
probably best to do what Jaker did and just get a DX rack from the junkyard anyway to put their quaife rack in anyway. Si racks are harder to come by.

just curious, but how did you finally resolve this issue? I purchased a quiafe rack a while ago for my 89 crx si, but haven't had the chance to work on it. had no idea i needed to also get a rack from the base/dx model.
Just hope it works ok. pls do update us!
