Default Professional Head porters look in here!

I started porting a spare PR4-2 head i had laying around a while back. Well i sorta turned my attention to other things on my car and let the project die away. After realizing that the guides/seals were gone in my car(and running a 10.0 at the track) i regained the motivation to finish this thing.

Keep in mind that i didnt just go in there and start taking out material. I did alot of research and talked to a very well known porter who was kind enough to give a few tips(thanks Darrel ). Overall ive got around 28-30hrs into it with the help of a friend(drewsrt on here)...but i think i could do it again in 18 or so.

Its going to the machine shop soon for a valve job, new guides/seals, and a dip in the hot tank. Then im going to put in crower valvetrain and 404's...still undecided on the valves though. After this is done im gonna start on the block so i can really get the full potential of this head

Heres a few pics. Some of them are really shitty and make it look jagged...but theyre not jagged at all.

Unfinished exhaust port...a little more smoothing(is that a word? ) left.

Unfinished exhaust port versus stock

Intake ports upside down(shitty pic)

Exhaust ports(shitty pic)

My friend is gonna take better close up pics tomorrow...youll be able to see the attention to detail that we payed alot better then. To all the Professional porters in here...what do you think about my work? And what kinda tips do you have? Im sure youll be able to tell me alot more after i get better pics. The next one i do is gonna be sent off to Brad at RLZ to be put on a flowbench...i cant wait to see what she does

I think that RLZ's input and flowbench will really give everyone a better idea of how well it's done. It does look very nice though.

yea the pics do it no justice at all. The work looks good in person. Every port was duplicated as much as possible and I'm sure flow was increased a good bit. I'm eager to see how it performs.

post some pics of the valve bowls, that's where the flow can really be increased. also consider trimming or beveling the valve guides, i've seen 10-15cfm picked up just by shaping them a little better. but it looks great so far! good job!

Ill get some pics of the bowls up later this afternoon. I actually spent the most time in the bowl area. The valve guides on the exhaust side got shaved a good bit...but i just sorta smoother the ones on the intake. The pic of the exhaust port is when it was unfinished...ive done alot more to it since then.

Thanks man. It was an awesome experience and i learned alot through it all. Im thinking about doing someones head for free if theyll get it put on a flowbench. I wont make any money but im sure that it would help me hone my porting skills

Dude...that would be the ****. If youre serious ill come down this weekend. Yea im not really expecting that much from my first try...but as i said this is all a learning experience. Getting some flow numbers will probably help me out alot more than trial and error on different heads. And id like to make the numbers public...even if they suck. Maybe i can make a how-to post with this...showing what, and what not to do(hopefully my head wont be an example of waht not to do ).

Consider yourself lucky.

I am sure when you are there in person you'll get more good tips and see really cool stuff that Brad does not show on the internet.

I do the same when people come over to my house. I show them stuff I never post on the internet.

I raised it a little bit...mostly just to take out the hump at the top of the port. Ive noticed that none of the Vtec heads ive ever seen have this hump...and if they do its not as big.

He told me not to expect much of a change with the work i did. But like i said...i really just did it for the experience and to learn as much as i could. This is something that i could see myself doing for a living if i get good enough...it was a blast

Remember stock valve job = stock flow for the most part.

Have Brad throw one of his valve jobs on it and it will be killer.

Yea im trying to figure out what i can sell and **** so that i can afford one of his valve jobs...especially after seeing what it did for TBones car .

Im going down there in a few hours to put it on the bench...so il guess well see what a DIY port job will really do. Im not expecting much...but i hope to have a good bit mroe knowledge when i get back here. Ill prolly do alot of modifications to it after i see what it can do.
