It can throw off the balance of the rotor, cause premature cracks, and destroy your pad life. Don't do it.

why do you need drilled slotted rotors?

Engineers at brake companies spend alot of time designing the characteristics of a rotor. If they choose to make rotors drilled, they factor that in from the beginning. You would be amazed by the shear volume of considerations engineers have to look at when designing something. It would be unwise to drill the rotors out yourself without an idea as to what would happen to the structure of the rotors. Honestly, it could be bad for your health.

Ya but take into consideration that most (using them as an i.e.) brembo blanks are drilled/slotted by a third party don't think brembo makes all the engineering to them.

odds are you aren't gonna heat the brakes so much that you need to cool them like that, most everyone here with some experience puts the money in pads, lines, and fluids

some of the track racers get uber-fancy and make brake cooling ducts, but every write-up I've seen still has blank (no slotting/drilling) rotors on the car

This is true. But I would hope that these third parties would be responsible enough to invest in some R&D before they start randomly putting holes in rotors.

My buddy has some kind of connection so that he can get rotors professionally drilled/slotted for free. I turned down the offer. Drilled/slotted rotors don't do anything.

It was said that 3rd parties often do the drilling/slotting of Brembo rotors. That's because Brembo blanks work the best and aftermarket companies buy them, drill/slot them, and sell them to unsuspecting ricers.

yea the only cross drilled youll se from brembo are CAST in to the rotors this is the proper way to do it but you could imagine the cost of a mold to do that ..this is why welfare 3rd parties do it ..i had some cross drilled brembos and they crack in a lot of places and that was just havy street driving

sloted i dont think is to bad but if its soem clown with a die grinder doing it stay away

with the right pads youll have no problems with breaking

Cross-drilling doesn't make any difference in dissipating heat and also reduces the longevity of ur rotors......Slotted rotors do actually help w/ dissipating heat....

btw rotors sold in the U.S. are finished w/ an important coating that u could f$ck up if u try to drill them urself

In addition, drilling rotors reduces the surface area of a rotor and thus could reduce the stopping power of a vehicle.

I'm suprised no one has brought up the fact that Porsche rotors are drilled. I have seen MANY of them with cracks running through the rotor. They are also around an inch wide, with better cooling than any of our cars.

Drilled rotors of ANY kind =

My bike has drilled rotors, but that might be for aesthetics. Although every sport bike I can think of has drilled rotors and they are basically F1 technology.
