Pics from DT at Portland International Raceway
Well, I have to say it was too much fun. My personal first time at a road course was amazing and I can't wait for the next event. I learned a couple of things about my habits; like keeping both hands on the wheel & learning my braking points BEFORE turning a hot lap...spun at turn 1 (lifted) and Gave a corner worker a nice work out; never saw a yellow flag get tossed around like that.
As for my car, its the black Integra. The suspension that I've been messing with for months now is incredible. Car has no understeer at full throttle and has turn in and rotation like....a car should have: Quick and stable. And the RT-615s handled like a dream.
Great tire.
Anyway, here are some photos of G3-teg's hatch, and our friend Chris' white Rally Integra...yes, even the Rally car came out to play at the track. However, the day was not without misshaps: one mustang ended up in the wall ( Always listen to your instructor and leave your ego at the gates)
Field consisted of:
Lots of mustangs, a couple vetts, a Race Ferrari (Oh how good it sounded on the straight), a Race Porsche, a few Rabbits, an NSX, a Sentra, two BMWs, a DOHC Del sol (lady driven) and a Saturn ION.
Not to mention two Old woman who had a ball.
Also, included are some photos of the big boys we were out there with. Crescent was all over the Porsche for the entire day even passing him on the second session. Congrats to G3-TEG for getting this car ready to race. Look for this quick hatch at a USTCC event near you!!!

Chris gets lapped, again.

The Big boys...and the Viper was really slow
And the gentleman who owned this beautiful Ferrari was a great guy. Traded his plane for the car and just wanted to come out and play...his day ended with a flat tire that came off of the rim.

Oh, I can't wait for the DE at PIR-Seattle. And we are not sure what the racing schedule is shaping up to be as of right now...

johng: can't wait to see you at the track and finally meet you (guys) in person. Not sure about PIR this season as it is a fairly far/long drive from Bellingham. The new truck did "ok" towing, but the trans temp light came on a few times on the way home last night. It was its first "road trip" towing the race car. Ordered a trans cooler today though, hopefully that'll help.
Tentatively, here's the events i'm most likely going to be at - although I probably won't be able to make all of them. The closest ones to date will most certainly be a go, as I want to get my novice races done and over with:
PIR:
June 4/5 Race #4 (rotn.6) CSCC
I would LOVE to go to this one next weekend, however currently I would be going by myself without a crew - this makes me a little weary. Also, it would mean that I'd have to get my medical done this week and the bigger issue is that I do not have a log book yet, and I do not want to risk driving 5 hours to PIR and find out that my car doesn't pass inspection.
Pacific:
August 6/7 Race #8 (rotn.4) IRDC - will be at this one for sure
October 1/2 Race #12 (rotn.2) IRDC
Mission:
July 9-10 CACC #2 - will be at this one for sure
July 23 - 24 ICSCC #2 - will be at this one for sure
Aug. 20-21 CACC #3
Sept 3-4 ICSCC #3
Oct. 8-9 CACC #4
Track Days:
Aug 1 Definative Driving Club @ P.R - will be at this one for sure

Also going to hit a few car shows this year. If you (johng) or anyone else is interested, we're looking to get a booth at these events. So if you're looking for some exposure, let me know.. we can share one.

Well there it is. I had no idea they were puttin on a Wednesday DE and I am a Senior member of the club. TC's course is one of the best to go through.
I think work is getting in the way of my racing habit.
Now all of you need to build ITA/H4 cars. Forget the hybrids, they seem to be 2-3 seconds a lap slower than the ITA cars.

You don't need a crew. We have "sat" many a newby.
As far as tech goes, if you have the safety equipment in order it is no problem. Legal cage, fire bottle, window net, drivers gear. Give me or Johng a call.

Yeah had a good time, learned a few things.
First time at Portland, found the new chicane tricky, but overall like the course quite a bit.
Ideal rally setup is not ideal for road racing stuff--spring rates too low, ride heights too high, and we don't run front or rear sway bars, so body roll was an issue.
Can't upgrade the brakes really in my class, was suprised at how underbraked the car was even with the Hawk HP+'s, or rather how quickly fade becomes an issue. Got better at managing the brakes as the day went on but didn't think that would be much of an issue at Portland.
My old autocross tires weren't really up to the task either, the gripped better then I had expected but eventually the left front gave out (bulged) under the heavier weight of the Integra. Some folks say that rally tires are decent on asphalt and I used to think so as well, but going from old R compounds to a rally tire even at the reduced 6/10s or 7/10's speed I was going was an eye opener. It was the last session of the day and all I wanted to do was reinfoce my driving lines and vision, but ended up being all over the place!
Have two rallies (thankfully gravel!) coming up in the next 3 weeks, then going to start getting the CRX finished for the July and August CACC and ICSCC events.

No need for concerns. You couldn't ask for a more experienced group of friendly Honda racers and wrenchers.
Maybe we should have a phone conversation, but here's one more thing to think about... if you enter the June 4-5 race and get your first one out of the way, you could enter the Spokane double race weekend on July 15-16-17 and get your last two Novice races over with in one weekend (Novice races on Friday and Saturday)! Once you upgrade, you would be eligible for the Honda Challenge cross-over race at Infineon on August 6-7.
We're expecting a good number of NW and Canadian drivers will be making the trip. If you can, you should try to make this happen.
I'll leave my cell# in a PM to you if you wanna chat. I also want to do the ECU tuning we talked about next weekend if possible.

Not sure what the plane was but it must have been something nice...the Ferrrari Cup Car (1/100) was in pristine condition...AND FAST!!!.

Cres... check your PM, I am leaving Seattle for Portland at noon on Friday. And with John not racing we should have good weather!!
Getting everything out of the way so you can come to Sears (Infineon) in August would be awsome, the more the merrier!
I would like to talk about some ECU work as well.
