Cool

Is it me or are those SOHC VTEC numbers with a nice dose of torque?

Nice numbers.

I dyno'd my 96 Ex Coupe 5-speed with just an AEM CAI and I got 112.8hp and 101.2tq on the first run.

I know...what I meant was this:

I wasn't expecting numbers that high; they were similar to a D16Z6/Y8 dyno but with better torque.

Delsolguy, I had a tad better tq with my D16Y8 than Spade if you are saying the Hx's get better torque.

The only mods was a K&N Drop in. (BTW, not my HX.)

Found a baseline, I didn't want to waste money on a dyno for the stock HX. I plan to swap an EX manifold and see how much improvement I get from that. The hard part will be to keep from doing a mild Port and Polish before I dyno

Call me stupid.
But, shouldn't the dyno plot look the same for an HX. I mean a stock HX makes about 115 HP.

Those are good numbers. Strong motor, very little drivetrain loss.

LOL! Yeah, Brandon is quite the legend around these parts; a true HX die-hard racer, or used to be. I haven't seen him around lately. I think he got that chart at a local Auto-X dyno day a few years back, but it shows why the typical HX will beat the typical EX 10 out of 10 times.

Despite Honda Corp horsepower CLAIMS, the HX and EX are evenly matched in this department. The difference is, EX's are carrying a couple-hundred extra pounds of pork around. Truth be known, I don't even bother racing EX's any more; not worth a ticket for a few stale laughs.

Anyway, the 'new' EX's come with VTEC-E motors in them now. Guess that says it all...

I know the numbers are about the same or lower with the HX, but the curve certainly looks good.

Check the discussion about the HX vs. EX cams.

Hmm I dunno if i'd go that far. I raced only 2 HX's in my EX with only an intake and walked them both. The lighter weight and lighter rims are great benefit's for the HX, but ultimatley, the EX still makes more high end from 5.5k and up. The D16Y8 and D16Z6 baseline dyno's ive seen over the years have always shown 106-108whp stock, or say 7-8whp more than a bone stock HX which is right where it should be.

Yeah however, it all depends on the driver.
Remember from a 70 mph roll the HX will be in the sweet spot.

Off the line they suck period. I almost lost to a damn sentra with two people in it from the line but destroyed them from the roll.

If anything I'd think it'd be the other way around. Seems to me like the HX has a far flatter torque curve than an EX does, and with the larger primary lobe attatched to the 2nd valve, the HX is actually breathing harder than the EX is untill the 3 lobe is engaged on the Y8. Racing from a roll where the EX can get a jump in VTEC is where the momentum slides over to our side. I've raced Si's from about a 70-75mph roll in 3rd (roughly 5500rpm for me) and get this, through 3rd gear we'd be dead even, he'd hit 4th before I did, and while he'd be in 4th, I'd PULL on the Si in 3rd.. of course once I hit 4th the Si tore me up, but the point is, while operating under VTEC, the Y8 is a far stronger motor than out of VTEC, with characteristic closer to that of the B16 (completley nutless till VTEC), this is the #1 reason why DX's and HX's are always door to door with me till 3rd when I can finally spend some worthwhile time between 5500 and 7300.
