Time for a new battery, Suggestions for a really dependable one!
So i think its finally time to get a new battery, with recent starting problems and constantly in need of a jump it is time for it to be replaced. According to the mechanic who checked it last it needed replacement anyway. So i thought i'd ask the individuals here who's had experiences with their car battery.
I was wondering if having three sirens on ur alarm could afftect the life of your car battery? Thought i'd ask since if it does, i'd would rather go with something much more reliable than your average sears battery. Any suggestions? not worried too much about the weight or size of it, just something reliable so i won't be bringing my freakn jumper cables with me all the time.

maybe its not your battery at fault, but your alternator. the regulator could be fried and causing the alternator to overcharge the battery. have you done a test of the charging system?
if it is the battery, consumer reports has given the kirkland (costco) battery very high marks and best for the money rating. or you could go with the optima battery which i have heard is a great battery.

last time it was checked which was a month ago.. mechanic indicated the battery and had to recharge it...at first i thought it could be the alternator, but when i jumped it last week it started fine...although it sounded like it was having a hard time crankn up..
so far the batteried mentioned were the following:
Xstatic BatCap 800
Braille
Kirkland
Optima Yellow Top
there's quiet a few if i missed any.. but they don't help narrowing it down.. need something reliable that wont let the car die if not started for a 3-4 days.
Also the optima yellow top battery has four different versions.. which one is compatible for a dc2 application? sorry for the newbie questions but is it the battery that falls under "D51 R"?

Yes.
Automotive batteries have a "group size" that indicates the size (physical dimensions) of the battery and where the terminals are. 51R is the group size for the ITR battery.

if your battery is only lasting a year then i would really think about taking the alternator out and testing that thing. do you have alot of accessaries? is there alot of battery acid around the battery?
nope not a lot of accessories..just the indash dvd and the 3siren alarms..not battery acid around the battery though..

I am still using the old battery out of my 99 Si, and it's working fine. But I would like to either get the Xstatic BatCap 800 or the Optima Yellow Top D51R.
I would like to hear from people that have used either of these though, before I jump into purchasing either one, since they are both over $100.

Optima makes a group 51 battery with the terminals on either side of the battery. It sounds like they make one for the ITR. And honestly, after owning an Optima, I would NEVER own another conventional battery again. Besides being able to deep-cycle without fuss, the Optima will NOT leak and cause all that nasty corrosion of the battery tray, frame rails, etc.

They also make a group 51R battery with the terminals right where you want them. Their Yellow Top (51R-OY) is $140 at Autozone. I think they sell Optima batteries at Sam's Club and Costco too, where they're likely to be cheapest, if that's what you want (and they also have other brands, as noted above, which are likely to be cheaper still, and still good).

Not true. The most recent article about car batteries is in the November 2004 issue. They rated batteries for group sizes 65, 75, 24, and 34/78 (but not 51, which is ours). Their "best buy" rating went to one ProStart battery (sold at Pep Boys) and two Advance Autocraft batteries (sold at Advance Auto). Two of the 14 group 75 batteries they tested were Kirkland (Costco) and they were ranked 7th and 13th.

Mine lasted under two years... But I abuse it to the extreme! Lets just say I plug things into it I should not. EX: 1500 wt power inverter for- NYC street lamp, buffer, vacuum, tvs, battery chargers of all types, and not too mention a 900 wt sound system that it always dimming lights
So i went back to sears and they gave me a new one

I'm battery shopping. I'm posting it here because this is the most recent of all the battery-selection topics. Here's information about what I've found.
I've decided to limit my search to stock-sized batteries. I'm a little concerned with the ability of a lightweight battery to handle starting in Chicago winters. So I'm looking at group size 51R batteries (that's our stock size and configuration). The stock battery is rated at 410 CCA (cold cranking amps).
I've found the following options:
Sam's Club - $54 for Interstate Megatron, 500 CCA, 36 month full warranty and 75 month pro-rated, installation available.
Costco - $37 for Kirkland battery (Costco house brand, made by Johnson Controls), 500 CCA, 36 month full warranty and 100 month pro-rated, installation NOT available.
Dealer - $118 installed, not sure about other details.
Independent mechanic - $80-90 for Delco battery, installed, not sure about other details.
Autozone - Duralast Gold, $76, 500 CCA, 3 year warranty with 8 years pro-rated; also Duralast, $56, 430 CCA, 2 year warranty with 7 years pro-rated.
Sears - Diehard Gold, $75, 3 year warranty with 100 months pro-rated; also Diehard Weatherhandler, $56, 18 month warranty with 72 months pro-rated
Advance Auto Parts - Autocraft, $50, 435 CCA, 2 year warranty with 72 months pro-rated; also Optima Yellow Top $119, 500 CCA.

This one looks really good Ken. IIRC, Interstates come shrink-wrapped so you know they have not been installed elsewhere and tampered with and I think they come with dates of manufacture also.

i had a brand new interstate battery but couldn't handle the alarm, switched to the yellow top which i would suggest ken.

I may have to go yellow as well due to the same reason.

yeah, i have had the same problem as you kicker (i think you saw in my last thread) and i replaced the battery and sometimes it randomly just dies after shutting it on and off more than twice a day and according to advance auto, my alternator is giving off bad readings and alternators aren't cheap
