CEL 43 Fuel supply system and stumbles while cruising
I'm rollin to a final exam this mornin and had the car stumble while I was just cruisin about 35mph in 3rd and 4th gear. It felt exactly like just taking your foot off the pedal and when I would give it some more gas, felt underpowered and like something was holding the car back. It also made a bogging/chugging noise and feel. It seemed to go away if I kept giving gas to the car and just didn't let off or hold it steady to cruise. I've been trippin a CEL 43 Fuel supply system code every other time I drive the car. This kinda sounds like the fuel pump, yeah?

It did it again driving from one parking lot to another on campus. It will bog when I'm around 1500rpm in 1st or 2nd gear just holding the gas steady. It has no problem when I blip the throttle, but comes back after I go back to cruising at that engine speed. This bish better not die before I get home.
I have the same problem on a turbo ls/vtec I thought it was cause my 750cc inj and Hondata is not completely tuned yet. I haven't tripped a CEL 43. The last time I tripped that code though I backed off fuel pressure and it went away, but that was before the turbo. What all is done to your engine any changes recently.
I have new RC 440's, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, map sensor, tuned hondata. I'm thinkin its either my 02 sensor or fuel pump.
The only changes I've made to the car was plugging the 02 sensor back in a few days ago. It was unplugged for who the hell knows how long. I've only put about 200 miles on it since I picked it up about a month ago. I found the CEL bulb unplugged, put it back in and started getting the Fuel Supply System code and this stumble.
It also does it when the vehicle is in neutral, just sitting still, when I hold the throttle to around 1-2k rpm. It bogs way down and then catches itself.
This all started when I plugged the sensor back in, but I figured it would just run like crap for a few days until the ECU relearned itself (even though the battery had been unplugged for a few days while getting some manifold and turbo work done).
gearheadgirlie.. thanks

Well, I finally had a chance to check the plugs and holy whiteness batman! I unplugged the 02 sensor and let her run for about 5 minutes and the plugs turned back to a dark gray. I haven't driven it, but it didn't want to stumble down on me while holding it at 1.5k or during idle. It's still poppin a bit, but I'm sure that’s a whole nother thing. I've noticed an increased amount of black crap on my bumper since the o2 sensor had been plugged back in. It used to be a fine light brown mostly around the exhaust, but now it's a black and bigger chunks scattered around most of the bumper and heavier around the exhaust tip.
So, I'm thinkin it's the o2 sensor. Anyone agree or have any other ideas?

Well seeing as how you unplugged the o2 and it got better. It sounds like a reasonable answer. I know when I pulled a friends out after it had been unplugged for awhile it was pretty clogged up do to the o2 heater not working. We just bought a new one, never did try running the old one. So yah I'd o2.

Im having the exact same problem, i have a 97 prelude i just put hondata s200(p72 ecu) on along with a new header and at cruising speeds it will bog/stumble untill i tap the throttle a little and it definaly is effecting power, it also threw a cel 43 but it will go away after i turn the car off .
any update?
any update?
mine throws a code 43 when I drive sometimes. I changed 02 sensors, and it did not seem to fix the problem. I personally think it is because I am running really rich around 4000, and it trips the 02 sensor. This problem occured for me as well after I got the car tuned with hondata. I did however change my fuel filter 2 weeks ago, and I have not had a code 43 since. I remember a few people changing their fuel filter as well and having some luck. You might want to try it, probably could not hurt to change it anyway.
well , actully i just changed the fuel filter last saturday, im also throwing alot more black soot on my bumper then normal and on the expressway my friends will be behind me and when i acclerate they same it just pours grey/black smoke.
My problem is exactly like "leans" plugs are also turning a little whiteish and at idle it will idle a little lower then normal and catch itself and move up to 1k

I'm having somewhat of a similar problem too guys. I just recently put an obd1 h22 in my obd2 accord. This means my o2 sensor that use to come out of my header isn't bunged so thats why its throwing code 1(o2 sensor) but its also throwing code 43 and i have no idea why. Does anybody know if code 43 would go away as soon as i get the o2 sensor bunged? are they related or affect each other in some way? what does this code 43 even mean?
Hmm, I guess my update post didn't work last week.
Well, I replaced the 02 sensor and it idled fine and all that jazz. The next day I started it up and the coil took a **** on me right away. So, I'm finally back on the road today, everythin goin fine until I'm driving about 1.5-2k in second gear leaving a store parking lot and it started to stumble again, but not nearly as bad as before. She got home just fine, but I'm paranoid as a **** and have to drive a few hours home on Sunday. I just checked my plugs and they were light gray, not nearly as white as before. I didn't throw any codes today, but I also stayed outta boost for the most part.
What kind of things will a nasty exhaust leak do to your idle?
I guess time will only tell what happens. I need to be rich and hire a couple midget mechanics to follow me around in a chase car for the rest of my life. Only then will I be able to cruise with no worries.

Hello guys...i have the same damm problem....i have an h22a1 lude..with 2 weeks fuel filter, and when warming up the car stumbles or missfires at around 2-3k rpm, then in a moment appears 43 CEL and the car runs o.k. no more stumbles no missfires??? WTF.. i searched a LOT and changed last weekend my O2 sensor and its worst now it stumbles when hot too....the o2 its a denso.
Im really crazy, dont understood...it seems to be an electrical problem because its can go aways with the cel like magic dont you thinK?
Any help will really be welcome......

Ok...Ill voice my cel 43 problems.
I have had a cel 43 for some time now on my mostly stock d16z6 auto to manual conversion and havent really thought much of it. When it first started to come on I thought it was a problem with my fuel filter being clogged.
So I have changed the fuel filter 2 days ago and now the car starts to stumble real bad now. Like around 2k-3k of cruising the car will surge, pop, and carry on like it has a bad cap and rotor (which i changed about a week ago).
The other thing I did to the car when I changed the fuel filter is that I cleaned the plugs on the o2 sensor extension I made. (You know how when you get an after market header you have to extend the o2 wires so that the plugs reach?) Im thinking the o2 wires or something in that wiring harness has gone bad or is getting some kind of interference.
The o2 cant possibly be bad because i JUST changed that thing 5 months ago.
Again, this car isnt on boost or nething crazy like that. Just a simple ol' SOHC VTEC having the same cel 43 as you guys.
I'll be messing with the o2 wires some more to see if the cel will go away... Do you guys have this o2 wire extension as well??

yea any update i would love to know, i get a cel 7 and 43 both fuel supply well 7 is a lil diff but... i'm not bogging at all, i'm runnin pretty good, sohc vtec.. runnin very low 16's, high 15's. the engine light comes on, i shut the car off and it stays off, WTF, all i have is CAI/H/E/ wit a high flow cat, gsr exhaust.95 ex...oh 7 is the throttle position sensor, anyone have any info, what where when why and how?? much appreciated
so has anybody figured out what cause this problem? i have the same problem throws a code 43 but cel doesn't come on until the cars been running for a while, then turns off when i turn the car off. i tried to get the code like 5 or 6 times before i read the 43, seemed i just couldn't get the jumper wire in fast enough before the computer stpped putting the code out. the difference seems to be though that i'm not experiencing any kind of stumbling at any speed or rpm level. that's in a d16z6 by the way.
i'll have some time to look at it this weekend then i'm going on a roadtrip (not in my car) but i'd like to have it fixed eventually. i have a drain on the battery too, could that be connected at all?

my problem sounds most like the one above.
mostly stock d16z6.
car runs fine but the cel pops on while on the highway once and a while.
when doing a 2nd or 3rd gear pull i've noticed that the a/f gauge starts over in the rich when i first punch it, then starts to come back to stoich slowly while still at WOT.
i'm thinking now that maybe the fuel pump cant keep up with the motor?

my car sits at 750 rpms at idle and some times it drops to 500 then catches its self and go back to 750 i have alittle black soot on my bumper but you can only notice it after a week or so , is this normal i am not throwing an codes and the only my car feels boggy is when i stomp it cuz my clutch is slipping. just would like to know if this normal , my plugs look fine i compare then every time i change them to the pictures in the back fo my haynes ..?
i have same problem running lean as hell car feals like i take my foot off the gas but im not moving my foot.....problem with un pluging the 02 sencer is that once u do that the ecu goes in to limp mode and runs the "im broken way" and will not fix that the problem with my car was i had a clouged fule filter and a bad injector
bumpin this up a buddy of mine has the same problem with his car...weve been trying to iron this out for some time now...the car is a ls/vtec with the usual mods..its got all the symptoms and cel 43 that everyone above has...
has anyone narrowed this down yet? doesnt seem likes its an o2...i put my wideband on his car wich i know is good and it does the same thing running off the wb. he just swapped fuel filters and injectors....so next is a fuel pump? a/f's are good across the board...hes also got a msd ignition and is currently running on uberdata. could uber be the problem? ive seen a couple of the guys above were running hondata...could it be something with uber/hondata?

anyone figure it out? i got the code 43 and mine does the same thing where in first gear you are driving and it just like shuts off the gas then comes back on and it jerks
