Default Bridgestone Pole Position S-03 on Type R

Just got a new set of street tires for the type R - 205/50-15 S-03 PPs. After I got the mold release worn off, here's what I noticed.

1) Much quieter than RE-010s
2) Much softer initial bump impact than RE-010s
3) Slightly slower turn in but more linear than RE-010s
4) Slightly sqirmy transient behavior - this is probably a tread height issue - the RE010s were at the wearbars
5) Steady state grip as good or better than RE-010

Overall - these are no replacement for R tires but I think they will make a great daily driver tire. I think they would make a good STS tire as well.

Regards,
Alan

Have you had a chance to drive on 205/50 Azenis yet? I bought them after the RE010's were gone and have been very pleased with them so far (3000 street miles and 350 track miles).

I noticed a slighty slower turn in with the Azeins too... wonder if it's b/c the tire is slightly too large for the stock rim?

A daily driver tire that lasts about 3-5k miles? Oooohhh. Sign me up.
Last set of these I saw were about that old, and had less tread than my Kumho v700's. Of course, there is no accounting for use....

Well, we shall see. I got 14K on the RE-010s so I guess I'm pretty easy on the street.

FWIW the s-03s have a 220 treadwear rating and the RE-010s have a 140. Same manufacturer so the numbers should have some meaning relative to eachother. To me that means the s-03 will last longer than the RE-010. I am hoping for 20K

Regards,
Alan

I just recently turned 20K on the stock RE-010's. Most of my street driving is Turnpike though. They still have a decent amount of life left in them. Although they are starting to get a little hard. not sure if that is just the cold weather though.

Put those tires on a 7" rim and the slower turn-in and squirmy behavior should go away.

Those are wiiiiide 205's for a 6" rim, assuming that's what you have them on.

You need to boost your tire press some to offset the squirm I have them in 205 and think they are the best. I tend to run them at 38F 36R and the ride is still good but it made a nice improvement in response. 40F 38R is good to but the ride starts to suffer but still about the same as the 010's.

How much is the S-03? I think they are super expensive for street tire.

They were more a year ago when I was looking at them. I think they are in the decent affordable range now.

If you goto any Firestone shop or Sears whatever...their Manufacture Suggested Retail Price for a 205/50 is $220 each in their computer database.....

Tire rack is having a sale on the 195/50...buying tires on the Internet is always cheaper!

You had wear bars left. I'm sitting right at 15k and my re10's feal like velcro trying to turn at slow speeds. I always stop and get out to make sure I dont have a flat. Nope, just bald...I kind of feel like a moron when I leave work and my tires shudder when I turn out of my slot. I know they heard that

Im on a quest for tires for the womans GTP, the factory rsa's are junk
