Default Stock LS Turbo vs Stock D series Turbo. What are differences other than Torque

Obviously I would have more potential with a Boosted LS but speaking realistically is the difference between a boosted D and LS big?

Lets say, 10 pounds of boost each.. How much HP can I see from each motor with some internals done

(And please, don't bring up the swap price and all that, try to stay in topic)

PS. No I did not search

The LS will cost more and won't be faster in the 1/4 mile.

And how do you figure that? A more powerful motor, pushing the same amount of boost won't be more powerful? News to me.

no matter what, the d series will be cheaper, all b series parts are A LOT more exspensive, just get a d16z6 and boost it.

Off of a websit comparo. both stock internals
with 8 pounds of boost each
D16 = 225hp
LS = 243hp
Didnt list torque gains

Hope that helps. Did the same reasearch before i got my ls
Building now for boost

LS tranny is a POS. Also it will have a lot of torque so you will get a bad 60' resulting in a slower 1/4 time than the turbo d16 which will have less wheelspin resulting in a better 60' thus a faster 1/4 mile.

Same reason an alllmotor car will kill most turbo fwd cars off the line when slicks arent used.

A LS tranny has very similar gearing to a EX tranny

damn, so many posts and you're posting bullshit.

That's has got to be the biggest load of crap I've ever heard

An LS will make more power and TQ. With some slicks, guess what...it's gonna hook up make good 60's and have a better time.

Yea, the LS trans is crappy and pretty long but that'll actually have one advantage which will be better traction.

The Ls is NOT that similar to an EX tranny. I'd say its more like a DX or so.

Y80/S80 b18b tranny- 1st-3.230, 2nd-1.900, 3rd-1.269 4th-0.966, 5th-0.714, final-4.266
P20/B000 D16 trans- 1st-3.250, 2nd-1.900, 3rd-1.250, 4th-0.909, 5th-3.153, final-4.266
I'd say they're pretty close

Well then...I stand corrected on that aspect.

I'm not much of a d series guy but why does everyone say to get an EX/Si trans if the gears are LONG like that?

Everyone usually compares it as DX-->LS, EX--->GSR, Si (I though it was the same as the ex but)---->b16. Then the CX and VX were the crappiest longest transes ever made.

I still stand by my previous uncorrected statement

if I was going to run them stock boosted, doing the d series will probly save you some money, and tuned right make reasonable power, but if you want to start building and making more power, i'm thinking b is going to outperform in every aspect.......

well i can def tell you from experience. i had my d16z6 with the 14b turbo on my civic and ran as high as 11psi,2.5" downpipe dyno tuned also felt good at the time.
now i have a new setup which consist of the ls motor with the same 14b turbo(for now) with 10psi,2.25" downpipe with street tune setup and the ls pulls a lot harder than my old setup torque and accelaration is well beyond what i was used to no more downshifting for me. i will dyno tuned it once i get the 2.5" downpipe and 3" exhaust. Im a beliver of the single cam and still have props for them but the ls def has more potential and stock for stock ls can handle more boost . and price difference wise is not much, i paid 200 for my 91 ls and got another spare 92 for 230 at the junk yard, 95 were around 280.

+1....BTW LS Tranny+Boost=Highway monster due to the fact that you will stay in boost longer but to each his own.

yes, absolutely. ive also had both, and let me tell you when i hit 5 grand in the ls it noticeably pushes you back in the seat, not to mention the tires just spin if im in 1st or 2nd. the d16 felt more like a stock turbo car, smooth and constant power.

that is why god made gsr trannys . put it on a turbo ls and your golden.

ok look, the ls will make a little more hp and torque that the d16 per psi, mainly due to larger displacemnt. more importantly, it can take more horsepower on stock internals safely. this is why i went with an ls. i wanted about 250whp, which is way to borderline for a d16, but well within the ability of a stock block ls. its all about what you want to do
