Default skunk 2 stage II stock jdm gsr bottom

A local shop told me I could run stage II with stock jdm gsr internals as long as I had upgraded valvtrain, skunk IM, and mild p&p, thinner HG and tuned by say hondata. Any truth to this, I thought for sure Id need upgraded pistons. Id rather not upgrade pistons if I didnt have to.

I am running that exact setup. It makes good power but leaves something to be desired. But its perfectly safe as long as you have the valvetrain and don't rev past say 8300 rpmish.

Stock rod bolts.

I am not saying you can't, but in my opinion you are taking a risk...a very expensive risk.

I think I am going to have to say I disagree. I have taken my GSR bottom end up to 9k on many occasions. Much past that I think you might START to run into trouble... but those rod bolts should handle ~9k without much issue unless they have a million miles on them.

On my B16 with PCT pistons, S2S2 moved my peak power over 8000RPMs from 7800 when i had ITR cams. Many people here will tell you what they read and that the S2S2 cams will only work better if you have 11.5:1 or more. But i put them on a B20vtec with only 9.6cr and it gave me power till 8000 and almost flat lined till 9000.

They will work. More compression will work better, but the Skunk cams will beat GSR or CTR cams on that motor.
