My MEGAN RACING Header BROKE on my da
EDIT
This is nothing against the quality of Megan Racing Headers, but simply an example of a poor installation. I had no idea that I needed a flex pipe, and apparently the muffler shop that made this for me didn't take the time to figure it out. Here is the result.
/EDIT
I still can't believe this happened... and still not sure why. I had a small dent previous to the break, but I'm pretty sure I didn't hit any bumps when this happened. I will post more details when I have time, because as of current I am trying to get my warranty straightened out among the 40 other things that need to be done.

About a week ago, yes, caused a slight scratch. Today, no, I don't know what the hell happened, I was going around a corner and turned into a race-car. (bwa-bwa-bwa-bwa-bwa-bwa)

Mine's taken a load of abuse and all it has is a small crack from bottoming out on a speed bump. It might have been an isolated problem. Did you have the bracket that connects to the block on? That might have weakened the weld. But all you need to do is get it rewelded. Might cost 20-30 at a muffler shop.

IIRC, they have a 1 year warranty on their products. I've read that they have pretty good CS. I guess there was a design problem on their Accord/TL/CL V6 headers and they replaced the downpipes for people.

Are you using a flex pipe, donut gasket, and/or springs with the bolts that mount the header to your test pipe? If not, that's most likely why it cracked.
Same thing happened to my DC Sports header because I was not using a flex pipe and the fitment was not perfect with the Carsound Cat. If the header does not have room to "flex", the welds can crack overtime.

Doesnt look like he have anykind of flex pipe or spring bolt, anything will break over time if you dont have flex pipe or spring bolt. I dont think this is the header fault, it user error.

Well, I sent the pictures to Megan and hopefully I'll be getting another one. I can understand how it was user error, but I had no idea that those sort of bolts needed to be on there. I had the custom exhaust made for me and I guess that would leave the fault with them. Either way, next time I put this together I am definitely going to add that.

the reason why it broke is because you didn't have a flex pipe or spring bolts installed. when you accelerate the engine will flex and if your exhaust is rigid like that the header will fatigue and premature failure will occur. the force of the engine moving has nowhere to go so you are putting a lot of force on the header. it is not uncommon to see this type of cracks on a setup liike yours.

Wow, now I'm kinda pissed at the guy who made this setup for me, I'm gonna be on the phone w/ him tomorrow. He never said anything and I'm a n00b to that kind of stuff so at least now I know.
The only problem is, apparently this header comes w/ a 2-hole flange and now it has a 3-hole, and if it was modified, that voids the warranty. I have no idea what the guy did while building the custom exhaust, and now I don't think Megan is going to replace anything.

besides the reasons stated, (engine movement) the heat cycles need to allow for expansion, which is what the spring bolts are for.

Flex Pipe: helps connect your custom exhaust. This also allows for a better fitment and movement for those tough angle installs. Flex Pipes is made up of Stainless Steel Braids. Helps with stress and other related problem of common exhaust systems. <-from kteller ,people who doesnt know

i think ur piping fucked it up bad
you need some points looosen all the street its giving the header being so tight like that!
if ur exhuast person was smart he would of keeped it a 2bolt flange so u can always sell it or add a cat or something

So not true. I havent had spring bolts or flex pipe on my DA iin over 5 years and NEVER broke ****. My setup is just like this one but 2 bolts not 3. Also using DC 4/1

Now you guys have me all worried. As i am getting my header today. The stock pipe hase the doughnut and spring bolts.....correct??
You can re-use these parts....correct?
Cliff Notes:
In this guys case it is bolted straight to the pipe, no cat. No spring bolts, no nothing and that is why it broke, due to flex and heat expansion. With spriing bolts, stock doughnut and/or a flex pipe(in place of the cat?) this should not of cracked.

spring bolts and you will be set, call them though they are usually really cool about CS, the scion tC header had some issues, they wanted a pic of it, then they just send you another one no questions asked.
