Default Drifting lesson in my ITR (vid)

As you probably know, two weeks ago I didn't succeed (1.9MB) in correcting my little drift and ended in a spin . Yesterday, it rained again so I took my friend into my ITR and told him to teach me how to correct the drifts on a track.

Here (2.7MB) is the result of several corrections. I know, nothing special, but at least I was able to correct all my drifts and I didn't end in a spin, while others did . Next time, I hope I will get better.

My ITR is stock.

Both the videos don't work? It's DivX 5.1.1 format.

Wow... I was quite impressed with the video setup of the first video... do you have a lipstick camera mounted on the steering column?

The videos worked for me.

Pretty cool I like the second drift in the second video the best

That was cool how you had a camera on your tach and speedo in the first vid

Yes, just a small camera mounted in front of the steering wheel.

If you like it, here (16MB) is the whole one lap on the same track.

Suggestions welcome

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but that's power sliding, not drifting.

If u can't keep the rear tires burning, then u can't keep the car going sideways which is what drifting is all about.

EDIT: typo

sorry if i sounded harsh, but it gets to me when people in front wheel drive cars think they can drift in it.

above all, great ability to keep ur car under control. it takes a lot of skills to oversteer and control it the way you want. props to u!

...just please don't call it drifting

No problem

Unfortunatelly, I am far from a good driver, but I want to change it. That's why I took my friend who is a very good driver and can power slide anytime he wants in his Prelude . Additionally, he also can stand this slide and he never ends in a spin. First time, I thought I can never get my stock ITR into a slide, the car just seemed to be rock stable and always slided with all 4 wheels. Finally I succeded with some throttle and steering wheel play.

i remember seeing one video of type R .. the guy can actually drift.. .. it was one of the off ramps and he slams on his brakes and shifts the weight to the front so the back end can slide out by using little bit of E brake... i dont htink i can find that vid now but.. someone must know what vid i'm talking about...

What about the EF drifting vid in the RR/Autox forum? Sure, he uses the e-brake, but even by the definition "keeping the car sideways" he's drifting. The method of losing traction shouldn't matter, that's like saying trail-braking a corner in a Honda isn't racing, just because some RWD thing can just lay down some gas to get the same rotation.

By the way Petrv, in that last bit of the second clip where you really get sliding, make sure to stay on the gas. It seemed like you were doing that in the external vid, but in the in-car it sounds like you lifted. Staying on the gas will keep you moving forward and maintain your current balance, and lifting will cause more of a weight shift, causing the rear to come around more.

Yes, you are right that I lifted the accelerator. The voices "ser na to" that my teacher says 3 times quickly on the end of the video mean "stop it" or better "f*ck it" in Czech language. It probably doesn't look on the video, but it was really too much that if I kept the accelerator on the floor, I would probably go to the grass. It looks really nice on the external video, but it was not very nice inside

but how long can u keep a FWD going sideways before it gains it's traction and loses it's volicity?...not very long. In a RWD you can keep the tail out and maintain your velocity going circles and circles.

There is still a difference between sliding and drifting.

Drifting = sliding with style, that's all. I don't know why there's some prerequisite that the car has to be RWD to do it. Were I to drift, I wouldn't go the FWD route, but I also won't say it can't be done. Check out the video if you don't believe me. The car wasn't super smooth, but I've seen another video of an AE86 drifiting (who happened to win the competition he was in), and he wasn't especially smooth either. As further evidence, the winner of the first US drift event at BeaveRun was in a Civic. Not a 240SX, not an RX7, a Civic. It'd be pretty hard to win a competition if you're not actually capable of doing the competing, eh?

"Drifting" has absolutly nothing to do with being RWD!!! Drifting is an Art/technique and not a RWD definition! So when Kazama, and Keichi, and others are on videos saying "this is how to "drift" a FF" then how is that not considered "drifting" right from the horses mouth?????

If any of you have ever seen the EF drift guy in action, your jaw would be stuck wide open!! This guy can out drift alot of D1 drivers!!! Yeah he can't hold a drift around the banks of Irwindale, but neither can most of the Hachiroku guys!!! In japan their drift tracks don't have huge insane sweeping corners like gay Nascar tracks! Even though I stick up for FF "drifting" I would not do it. I have a Hachi for that!
