Default Help, Teg not starting in cold weather...

For some weird reason my teg isn't starting. It has been in the 30's and low 20's lately but, nothing extreme. The other day when I started the car when it was cold it took a few extra turns and it almost died but, it did start. Now this morning it wouldn't start at all! I'm now home for lunch and I tried to start it again but, no luck. It's about 40 outside so I know it cannot be the weather anymore.

It's a 2000 GSR. I'm running 5w30, and I'm about 500+ miles overdue for an oil change. So, the oil has 3500 on it about. I also have a clifford alarm but, it didn't go off last night. Can't be the battery because the car is trying to start but, nothing happens. I'm on a time crunch since this is my only transportation and I need it tonight. I've also searched alittle but, didn't find anything too helpful. Any ideas? help!! BTW I bought the car in Dec. with no problems.

BTW the check engine light has been on for about a week but, I think that has to do with the oil change. Which I was going to do today.

check engine light has nothing to do with an oil change, thats the Maint Required light.

If the check engine light is on..then take it in...

The check engine light doesn't come on because of dirty oil. You're probably thinking of the maintenance required light, which goes off to remind you of the oil change interval.

Here's what you should do when you see the dummy lights:
OIL: Low oil pressure. Check oil level NOW!!!
CHECK ENGINE: some sensor is giving an errant reading. Pull the code and fix it the next time you have a chance.
MAINTENANCE REQUIRED: You're due for an oil change.

So anyways, if your check engine light is on, you need to pull the code and find out what's wrong.

its -14.8F which is -26 celcius here in Alberta, and my 94 RS starts up with 3 cranks without being plugged in left overnight. So something definately is wrong with your car.

Might want to check your battery.

Sorry it's the maint req. light. I'm thinking it might be the alarm? I don't know too much about this alarm since I didn't get it installed. I did try to get in touch with the guy I bought it from but, I'm still waiting for him to get home from work.

what about this immobilizer system I'm reading about in the manual. When I incert
the key should the green key symbol blink? I tried my valet key and my normal key and neither work or make the indicator blink. Should it?

What could it be if all my accesories work. Windows, lights, radio, etc.. but, it still doesn't start. Tried the other key and valet key as well. no luck.

Does the engine try to turn over? Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Try arming the car, and then disarm it...does it work now?

Make sure the starter electrical connection is clean.

Yeah, it tries to turn over and doesn't sound weird at all, just doesn't start. It doesn't sound like a battery problem. I've also armed and disarmed the car many times. I've even set off the alarm and repeated the process. I don't think it might be the alarm anymore because I've tried so many things and it seems fine.

A night or two prior the car bogged for a sec when it started but, I thought it was just the cold *** weather we've been having and didn't think much of it. I just wanted to try everything before I break down and call the dealer. It's still under warranty but, I'd rather not go through all that hassle.

I'll look over the started connections, good idea. Hope that works.. Thanks guys!

A quick check: make sure the spark plugs and the wires are dry. Mine got wet SOMEHOW and made the engine miss erratically.

I wasn't aware the starters were problems in tegs. Is this something covered in the warranty?

My starter has been flawless for 185,600 miles...unless you count the electrical connection getting dirty.

I posted this same comment in yer other thread with the pic...if it is trying to start, but doesn't turn over, there is a high possibilty of the fuel pump being bad. Let us know what the fix is!

I'm having similar problems. I thought it was weather related too? Actually the problem comes & goes. When I turn the ignition I hear a clank. Doesn't even sound like it's turning. I hear a buzzing like sound. I got a brand new battery so it can't be it. Is it a cold start problem. Gas line frozen. I heard prestone made an additive that u put in your gas tank. should i try it.

I had the same problem and I replaced the igniter and that fixed my problem.

yeah, it could be the igniter....aslo. do you have a system, in the car? that can make the alternator crap out. and eventually if u drive enough on a bad alternator, you take juice from the battery , and then the next time u start it, your battery doesnt have enough juice to turn it over
