Anyone here had any problems with their Omni Sports?

what was it rubbing? the brake line?

 

I have the sport version's on my eg so far no problems little stif but i like them....

I'm not sure. At first I thought it was from the tire when the lower mount broke but it seems too low to be the case. I'll try to find out.

Do not blame Omnipower for any of this, it was user end error. He said he neglected his bushing, and the bushing basically popped out. The fork lowered onto the axle and the axle chewed away at the inner fork aswell.

He even said none of it was Omnipower's fault.

If all it took was a busted bushing to break the bottom off the shock body what would a pot hole, unseen speedbump, or putting a tire off the track in a turn do?

The break may not be directly the fault of the shock, but the shock should be durable enough to handle something like that.

 

the omni's seem alot beefier than stock and I beat the **** out of the stock setup up so...

 

You seem to be clueless Jasper. The shock is designed to travel two different ways. UP and DOWN, it wasn't made to travel at 90 degree angles just incase someone neglected their 14 year old bushings.

I have Omnipowers on my car, I don't defend them because of how much I love them; I defend them because in this exact same situation, I would love to see what would happen to other shocks. The Omnipower is a beefy mother ******, what would happen to a Koni Yellow that everyone praises? Should we look elsewhere because of an accident that has nothing to do with them just so happened to effect it?

What kind of problems? Installation? Wear and tear?

As for me, installation was cake. Fit perfectly. Adjusting them was easy. Wear and tear...I am not the one to ask. I've been running them for three weeks now and they are great. I have no complaints.

dude...thats not omni thats instalation error....read the whole thread and the guy says that ppl told himhis lca bushings were bad, and he didn't replace them....and prolly with the stiff suspension the bushing couldn't hold.....i dont see why ppl always need to blame to a company because of other ppl's mistakes

I've set a wheel off track and hit massive bumps mid corner with my Koni Sports and they came away with some chipped powder coating. If something did happen to them, I could send them back to Koni or any of Koni rebuilders such as Truechoice for rebuilding.

This is a real world situation. Those shocks should have been able to hold up.

Suspension systems are under all sorts of loading - vertical and side loads. This system should have been able to hold up since it's marketed as a performance item.

thats still operator error,,,,the guy said that he installed them a month ago with a fubar'd bushing( could have alrdy been broke) he could have easily driven 3 wks with it being busted and with 3 wks of un-due stress on the lower collar.,,,anyway all he did was break the lower collar which is easily replaced since it just screws on, im not gonna let one bad incident on the omni coilovers chance my opinion. when i start seeing alot of omni failures with no installation error then ill sway my opinion


PS: and yes shocks are meant to be strong in a vertical motion...they arent that stronge when something force on them in a horaziontal motion....after a accident my buddies stock suspension busted because of side impact....oh well at least he didnt blow the shock

 

I am under the impression that the addition forces allowed by a worn bushing resulted in the failure that we are disussing here... obviously. But those that use these aluminum based bodied units must be aware that shock failure may not be far from realization based soley on materials used in there construction. Additional aspects that will add to a higher failure rate will be structural design of said units... could a thick wall have helped this shock? more than likely.

well the good thing is that his shock isn't what broke its the lower collar...which he more than likely can replace

 

I think Bizzle said something with his leaking or something like that. He says the handling isn't as tight as it was.

 

For the RSX the first version had some rubbing issues but Omni is now in the process of revising the full coilovers and even raising the spring rate. I plan on investing in a set of these once re-released. I have heard only good things from other RSX owners.

I may be clueless, but at least I can jack my car up without breaking the jack and having it almost kill me

 

Has anyone else broken one of these shocks like this? We had one break on a race car this weekend in St. Louis and put the car into the wall at 150+(it went through the lights at 170mph). The car is done. Where the bottom of the sleeve tapers down to the small diameter that goes into the fork is where it broke. The material is less than .100" thick right there, and aluminum at that. This was on a 900+hp drag car, so under acceleration there was quite a bit of tension on the shock, but these pieces are made way too thin. As soon as he lifted through the lights and the car came down, it broke and the car lost control. After further inspection, the other side was cracked most of the way around and about to go as well. I know of at least one other racer that has had this problem as well, but luckily is didn't cause an accident, and luckily nobody was hurt in this situation, just alot of money down the drain. Anyone else seen this happen?

I'm sure there will be pics when the coverage for this race gets posted. I think modified was there shooting it. That or someone who was there, the car sat in the pits all day sat. and i'm sure alot of people got pics of it. Took a pretty hard hit in the front left corner. Bryan, the driver, is fine though, all the safety equipment did it's job.

 

i hope omnipower has good product liability insurance coverage
