Default 1/2 Radiator / Traction system install pics

Parts:

1" aluminum core radiator
Slim fan
Totem traction bar
tailpipe hanger bracket
zipties
48 thick washers ( used to lower the xmember to allow rad clearance on stock hood)

heres the slim fan mounted on the radiator and the plug rewired to fit the crx

I looked around for brackets to mount this but they were all thin metal. so I went to autozone and bought the following, dremeled it up and got a nice thick bracket with holes for my rad mounting. next came the vice and large striking object

I mounted the xmember using 12 washers on each mounting point. I plan on getting some

spacers machined later on but for the meanwhile I needed to know how much space i needed to get the xmember to sit lower as to clear the USDM hood ( I plan on reinstalling the JDM front end)

the hood shuts fine on it. I have to get my alignment done and I plan on taking it to the track tomorrow to get impressions. I hope this helps some that plan on going the 1/2 rad route.

UPDATE! 4/25

the oil pan sits about 2 inches below the lowest level of the xmember

i agree... i think it hangs too low. is it lower than the downpipe of the header or the oil pan? i'd just be careful, otherwise, great lil project

Great install. Although in my opinion the kit sucks. You have to rig washers to make it sit remotely right, it mounts up terribly to the control arm, and actually gives you worse clearance than an oem crossmember. The totem/avid front traction crossmember for the EF gets my . Save a few bucks more and get an L-con system.

lol. actually, I used the washers to make the xmember sit lower while a machine shop makes me some thick spacers. it mounted fine without em . Its just that I didnt want to run the stock radiator so I had to do it to run the EG one. it mounted fine to the control arm. the AVID one sucks. thats the one youre confusin with this one. it mounts to the control arm with this wierd adaptor thing. this one has radius rods that look just like OEM at the control arm mounting point.

TOTEM xmember cost me $270

What kind of radiator is that? Is it for a Eg? Where did you get a single row one from?

I predict that the bolts holding the crossmember will bend.
You have to consider that all the forward force that moves your car is placed on that
piece of steel, not to mention all the braking force as well.
You have also changed the caster settings by lowering the pivot point on the radius rod, not something good for drag racing if that's is something you care about.
Other than that, it's a pretty creative solution.

I dont kno about the bendin part. but yea, ima redo the mountin point. Ill cut the bottom part of the rad support off so I dont have to mount the xmember lower. ill post new pics soon

Does anybody else have any pics or ideas on how to do this? I spent half my day today trying to make my 92 rad fit. I asked a local rad shop if anything could be modified with the radiator, nothing can be done. I don't want to have to buy a new cross member.
This is one of the two things holding me back from finishing my turbo setup. The other issue can be dealt with once I have this step complete. With my stock Rad I have no wastegate clearance.
Does anybody have any suggestions? please....
